Combat in Faith and Nations
Mortals fight for many reasons, Duty, Revenge, Anger, Love, or simply because they were ordered to. Gods are reflections of their follower's collective mind, forbodden to fight in the halls of Elsisum and otherwise secreted in their private realms, but there comes a time when even the most gentle and loving god must order their followers to take up arms and shed the blood of their fellows over some slight made in Heaven or a ploy for some artifact or other item of value.
That doesn't mean they can't lend a little divine favor to their side as the battle-lines converge and the metal meets the flesh.
Unit Stats
A unit is considered to consist of all the Solider, Heroes and Phrophets gathered for the purpose of a crusade, or the garrison of a town or fortress. Their collective abilities are gathered into Three Statistics. For ease of tracking, it assumedboth sides fight until one loses.
Attack
Based off of their quality of weapon, and the number of solders on their side, this is the stat that damages the opposing Unit. Warrior and Wisdom heroes can add to this
Defense
their quality of Armour and position, with Garrisons being behind their defenses. this reduces the enemies attack value by the amount listed and can be buffed by Wisdoms
Health
In the case of large monsters this is solely how tough they are, but in regular Units it is the number of soldiers left alive to fight, when this is depleted, the unit is destroyed, survivors flee and their is a chance that any heroes or messengers can be killed or, in the case of Heroes, captured.
Messengers
God do not have to sit back and trust in mortal steel to win their battles, and can send a Messenger to direct their Will upon the battlefield. If A messenger is present, their God can perform a single Miracle for the battle to aid their side. this miracles must be from the following list:
Heal- Allied Unit has +25 Health
Smite - Hostile Unit -25 Health
Zeal - Allied unit gains 30 Attack, but loses 20 defense
Shroud - Allied Unit Gains 30 defense, but loses 20 attack
Exalt: Allied Unit Gains immunity to Fear
Horror: Hostile unit loses 10 Attack and 10 Defense.
More Combat miracles and God-Specific ones can be developed by spending faith and knowledge
Example
Two gods, Ice and Fire have taken a liking to a patch of land between their kingdoms, not wanting their rival to claim it they send their best troops and a Divine Messenger along to ensure victory. Both forces are of equal size, but Fire has been preparing for war for a long time and his solders are better equipped, so, While the armies are marching, Ice manages to spend some Faith and summons a blizzard to slow the advance of Fire's armies, and even kill a few members, by enough that His get there first, gaining a slight defensive advantage.
Fire wants to counter that, so when the time for battle comes, he orders his messenger to drive the mortal solders into a righteous zeal, for his part Ice knows that Fire has better weapons and wants to try and weather the storm by buffing his solderer's defense ability and reinforcing once this battle is won.
However, even with his messenger shrouding his forces, the sheer fury and technological advantage sfire posses leaves him the victory and Ice's forces must retreat after suffering heavy losses.
Its not all Song and dance over in Fire's camp, however, their zeal may have won them the day, but they are heavily depleted in number and with the Blizzard still raging, must work hard to fortify their position and hope reinforcements arrive before Ice's counter attack, which must not be far off....
