I want to be. But with JJ Abrams having his mits on it, and the guy who directed Looper directing episode 7... well, I'm worried.
Still, we've seen some cool things such as the return to using more physical props instead of CGI out the wazoo, including an entire Millennium Falcon set.
The main reason I have started this thread is because of the following, which contains unconfirmed leaked spoilers about the premise and opening of Episode 7.
Honestly, I could believe this is true, just looking at the new Star Trek films and Looper, past works off perhaps the two most influential figures involved in this upcoming sequel. It doesn't make a lot of sense and it isn't particularly clever. But, it might just get the job done, after all that is supposedly only the beginning, which can probably be overlooked if it kicks off an awesome adventure.
In fact, the simplicity of the 'goal' the characters have harks back to the original star wars that was a classic good vs evil with a 'save the princess' story. Honestly, this might very well prove to be a good thing.
I personally hope there isn't too much over-reliance on the old cast however. Sure, a cameo here and there will be awesome but if they are focused on too much, well, it will really bring the film down.
I love the Star Wars Movies, both Trilogy`s, and I think I`m going to like the new ones. The choice in those making the movie is a little questionable, but again I doubt they will mess it up too much. But what I`m really giddy for, is the new ships and models, as its what I get a lot of my inspiration for my own models and animations. Regardless, I don't think it will be horrible if its bad, but I don't expect it to be the best movie either if its good.
So if you haven't seen the trailer yet, you must be living under a rock.
However, good news everyone! They've released some character names in an old-fashioned style.
Sadly this means the sith warrior is not Gwendoline Christie, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. I was just excited for space Brienne of space Tarth.
(see below link for all others, above are just the character names)
To be honest, although i enjoyed all the films for being just enjoyable adventures, i've enjoyed the EU more, mainly the KOTOR games and i think I've read a few of the books.
In other worlds, I've always seen the films as a gateway into the universe and i have been curious as to what happened after the emprah died and never been able to find the books which i think were declared non-canon.

I've heard that the sith big bad is seen wearing Revan's mask in some leaked artwork which essentially makes Kotor canon again and potentially means we could see a spin-off Kotor themed film. The rumour follows that the sith character is something of an artifact collector, with the 'crossguard lightsaber' not actually being a crossguard, but rather 'vents' due to it being so ancient and unstable. However, I can't find the actual artwork to back this up so I wouldn't put too much faith in it, despite how cool it is as an idea.
I might as well post the confirmed leaked artwork we actually do have though:

Alternatively it could mean that Disney is being lazy and just flat out recycling old designs.
Possibly, but so far it seems like a lot of effort is going into this film.
Also, new thought:
Rey and Finn don't have surnames, which suggests they may well have 'famous' surnames. Rey Solo anyone? (just an example of what I mean)
It would make sense to withhold famous surnames until the film hits, or at least nearer the release. It's certainly interesting to speculate, and I'd be very surprised if at least one member of the original heroes hasn't had a child which will feature heavily in the new trilogy.
So, this isn't episode 7 related. But it's star wars, and that makes it relevant.
I happened upon this rather excellent edit of episodes I, II and III. It's a bit rough, but ultimately well done and a vast improvement for the most part in my opinion. I thoroughly recommend that everyone watch it if you are a fan. When episode 7 rolls around and I do an obligatory full saga marathon, I think it'll be this version I watch. Saves about 3 hours of 'I don't like sand...' scrub tier scenes.
It also highlights that for the *most* part, Hayden Christensen's acting and that of the other actors in the prequels isn't actually all that bad. It's just the dialogue and the way it's been written as so plastic and inhuman that made it so awful. Patrick Steward couldn't make half of it sound good. Fortunately, the worst is all removed in this, making it thoroughly more enjoyable.
This cut is a bit odd particularly in the first half, especially as fans who already know the prequels and seeing everything so out of place feels very.. strange.
BUT... by half way through/the third act of the film, you find yourself oddly immersed in it and quite enjoying it too.
I feel like if I watch this enough I might actually be able to block out the dredge in the prequels which can only be a good thing. To anyone watching this, well, I hope you didn't like episode one too much because it barely features in it.
And yes.. the contrast (or something) is set way too high so a lot of the strong colours and lightsabers look very odd. It's not so bad that it ruins any scenes though, so sit back and enjoy two hours of star wars. It's well worth it, particularly for the ending.. oh, and don't skip the credits.
I'm really looking forward to Episode VII, I just hope it's good and doesn't have too much lens flare.
Also, a plasma (Or whatever a lightsaber is made of) crossguard on a lightsaber is a really silly idea. There are enough lightsaber proof materials in the Star Wars lore. Why couldn't they use one of those? It looks really cool, but lore wise, perhaps not.

Thing is, those materials are supposed to be very rare, possibly due to everyone and their mother having swords made of them in KOTOR, its not unreasonable that mr sith simply thought: "I want to protect my hands from being parted from my body, and its easier to mod my light sabre than locate, mine/buy/steal the metals in the whole damn galaxy and then do it."
