Nepty...you gotta stop changing your topography so randomly and suddenly...this is how people get so easily confused about what's going on. I mean, you made about six or seven different maps including the region at large plus ones specifically detailing each Mark and now...what...are they all irrelevant in the face of this new (and not nearly as good quality) map? The borders of each Mark now make no sense and Avenon and Redessa are now missing. I really don't know why it needs changing, the first maps were fine. Yeah, I'd agree with Wark that we need better communication and notification of change. I've had to rewrite several bits of background now because you've asked us to do one thing then changed your mind or retconned something. While I appreciate the effort and depth of background you are striving for I do think you should maybe focus on getting the basic information like where everything is that the players need out than giving us things like the flora and fauna of the world.

Working on it
The map there is rather low quality, yes, but the actual image is very high quality.
It's just a standin. I might go back to the old map's origional layout, but long story short that one made me feel barley motivated by the setting for some reason, this one feels much better. *Avenon is in the middle, and the other places are just not done yet.
I'll see aboutjust taking the big mountains out of the other maps middle which were a major factor in my intense dislike of it.

Alright guys, do to the overwhelming amount of criticism for the new map, I'm going back to the old one However, there are a few changes being implemented. In deference to wark and cas's comments, here's the forwarnings.
(Note: These are not some sort of 'yet another addition to the world. This is what is required. One could get a very good understanding of how to play by only reading this. It will go into the essential companion. If you feel overwhelmed, just know that this is basically all that's gonna be required in understanding the feudal laws of Rudaur)
A: The mountains in the middle are being broken up
There'll still be highlands, but huge icy peaks are going away, lest there be rainshadow. It also facilitates freer movement throughout the realm without having having to invade everywhere
B: Avenor is getting bigger Avenor is being enlarged in size. Avenon itself will be on a lake, not the sea, but be connected via the river. Think like "Skyrim's" Riften.
C: The combat system is getting an overhaul. Units will be organised into full armies, implied to be units, rather than individual companies, to save my sanity. Upon battle deployment, once can order them into companies, but I don't really want to calculate the movements of literally every group of more than ten men with swords on the entire continent. Thus feel free to assign any number of your men to various lords and give them marching orders without fear of overcomplication.
D: The system of logging town farming town etc is getting scrapped It's become a headache for me, flitting between documents, seriously. So therefore, all towns are being changed to either red or yellow. Red is "Perishables" mostly food, medicine or other necessities, like meat, grain, poppy syrup, bandages, etc. These towns are farming, some of the logging towns, etc. They also reflect the local landscape. A town producing perishables is likely to be surrounded by farmlands.
The Yellow is "Supplies" These towns produce things that, while not immediately required, can prove useful in the long run. Weapons, armor, arrows, bolts of cloth, tools and wagons come from here. These are only used up during warfare, construction or demolishing, though without them, it's difficult to wage war. The towns themselves will be considered to be accompanied by a nearby small castle. Major castles, held by Dukes, counts, earls, barons etc will be represented by black diamonds.
Soon after the map will follow a full list of NPCs. These are the only things that are really 100% required for the game, but here are some other useful notes to ponder on.
This game will be heavily rooted in the medieval tradition of Cassus Belli: "Cause For War" just because this is the middle ages does not mean that everyone can be rabidly chaos-warring against one another all of the time. Instead, a cassus belli is needed to begin a full invasion (though small raids are acceptable) Cassus Belli appeals to a higher power, and is mutual.
Mutual means that once a lord has cassus belli against another, the lord he declares war against will automatically be given cassus belli so he can defend himself. While possible to invade without cassus belli, this is highly frowned upon. Appealing to a higher power is required to stave off the wrath of the feudal powers that be.
Thus.
A feudal knight wishing to muster his troopsmust ask his count, earl, baron, ritter, margrave or vicount, or his duke, emperor or an archbishop for cassus belli, and provide a legitimate argument.
A count, earl, baron, ritter, margrave or vicount wishing to muster his troops for war must ask his duke, emperor or archbishop for a cassus belli.
A Duke must ask any power above him. Be it emperor, a conclave of fellow dukes (2 or more) or archbishop for cassus belli, to go to war himself.
A king must ask an archbishop or an emperor
An Emperor must ask an archbishop.
Archbishops can declare Crusades at will, but not wars of possession (IE, most wars, as they are based on aquiring lands)
A Cassus Belli is generally any legitimate cause for war, though the best is Claims. Claims allow you to "Press your claim." These mean that not only can you invade your enemy's lands, but also annex them for yourself. Pressing a claim is basically saying "I am related to this person, and I believe them unfit to rule" or "I am related to the lord who has recently died and believe that I am better than the aformentioned heir." Male claims are inherently better, and likely to be taken more seriously
Here's an example
Lord Titlewald of Titleberg's wife is the Duke of Nonamemark's cousin. The Duke of Nonamemark dies with no direct male heirs, but another cousin, who is only 15. Lord titlewald is an experienced commander, and 43 years old.
Lord Titlewald presses his claim, asking the Emperor for the lands. The emperor allows for his claims. Either this will be peaceful or it will come down to war.
The Duke of Nonamemark's cousin takes offense at this and prepares to defend his lands.
Lord Titlewald invades.
They fight for 1 month, and the Duke of Nonamemark is defeated and imprisoned and forced to sign away his lands. Lord Titlewald reigns for 6 more years before dying in terrible agony when a splinter he got while on the drops got infected and turned necrotic, eating away at his posterior and turning his ass to swiss cheese until he finally died and they had to use incense at his funeral to mask the smell of rotting flesh.
Generally when a Duke's lands are annexed, various redistribution of castles in commonplace, but if you want to ask me in depth about how one goes about on conquest, feel free to PM me.
Also, this can no longer continue being in development as I meant for this to start over a week ago. The start date is either the 20th or not at all.
Things I am waiting on
Warork's sheet.
Things I am working on The final, repurposed map A full list of noble NPCs.(once it is posted, don't be daunted, if you ever feel like waging a war, either go through the list and look for relatives or just ask me if there is anyone who you could press your claims to and I'll peruse the list myself unless occupied. If you're confused as to who's being mentioned IC, just check the list. Their titles will generally be included IC in any case. EI: Godfrey Tiberias, Emperor of Rudaur. Perusing his simple info in the list, one can find that he is a leper, that he wears an iron mask to cover it, that he is a famous battle commander, and that he played a part in the slaughter of most of Highmark's ducal family during the Anarchy)
Any more questions can be voiced here or on the thread, I will check every 15/20 mins if possible.

Hey nepty, just a heads up: aftere you're done updating all of the companion threads, inform me via PM or some other means as they need to be compiled into the same thread. There's no real reason for there to be three different ones for the same game.
