Repurposing this thread as a general Fallout 4/Fallout discussion thread. Story spoilers from the Fallout 4 will incur my wrath as I've yet to finish. Anyway, for those of you playing, how are you enjoying it? Personally, I was actually quite disappointed at first, which surprised me. There was no sense of awe or wanderlust, but maybe that's because unlike the last two games, I wasn't going in blind. I'd already seen gameplay footage from the beginning. But, after I got about 10 hours in, it all clicked and I fell in love/sold my soul to the devil so that I could stay up days on end playing it. Safe to say I will be playing it for a very long time. It's a lot of fun, and I really enjoy some of the innovative spins they've thrown in such as making power armour incredibly tough but a tactical choice, all the customization options and the settlements - although I have yet to use the latter two a whole lot. What can I say, I'm a quest nut. Love me some good old fashioned meaty PLOT. Also, the gunplay is amazing. So, what about the rest of you?

I can't believe they kill off ever character living at the sanctuary settlement. All my best chars were there!!!!! No warning given otherwise I'd have moved them out of there.
Ha, joke. Enjoying the game a lot with exception to the lack of emotion shown by the main char after the introduction scene. It just seems hollow to me considering what happens?
What's that? You need me to find a tin can? Sure, my emotional trauma is non-existant so its fine.

To be fair, considering I, as a player, had 0 emotional attachment to anyone or anything in the introduction, I'm fine with the character mirroring that. The sarcastic dialogue lines are often genuinely hilarious though, which was surprising. The last time a game made me laugh out loud was Michael explaining in depth for 20 minutes to Trevor that he's a hipster in GTA V, and often the one-liners in this make me laugh far more. I love it. I know a lot of people really were against the voice acting being added, but I really like it as expected. But then again I already loved Mass Effect and the way those games played, and the fact that this is open world means it one-ups ME by leagues. I have to say though: super mutant suiciders are a hilarious and brilliant new enemy. Sure as hell took me by surprise the first time I encountered was atomized by one.

Random info. The actor who voiced Garrus(Brandon Keener) in Mass Effect also voices several characters in Fallout 4, though I haven't yet found a list of who unless it is just the random unnamed characters.
Also, I wish I had used my real name and not my game name as apparently certain names are recognised and added so you can be spoken to using your real name at times.

Question.
When you progress you eventually are granted abilities in managing certain settlements (not a spoiler as it's advertised as such). There are 6 types of Trader stands you can eventually build once you level up enough and within each of the 6 types you have 3 versions of them from level 1 to 3. What I'd like to know is, is there any benefit to building all three or should I just go with the higher tier one? I can't seem to find any info on this. Obviously by having three vendors it means you can trade more at one time as each settler has a pocket full of caps, but that's not an ideal reason to build them.

Ahem The major benefit is that they increase settlement happiness and also give you places to buy/sell items. Certain NPCs will also boost a level 3 booth into a level 4. This allows them to sell better equipment and even legendary equipment if you put them into the right stall. I believe they give you some hints as to what store they would be best for.

One time I was playing and I saw a vertibird in the crash animation, it was spinning for a good 2 minutes before righting itself and then it blew up.

I have a special character in my Sanctuary settlement. Once I make some changes to the settlement I'll add him to a vendor so thanks for that info. I also learned that you can assign settlers to beds. I never knew that, so can build an encampment close to the marketplace I made.
Sanctuary is now completely enclosed with a barrier preventing any access in or out that doesn't go via the bridge. I basically built a wall from the bridge to the first building (the one you can scrap) and kept going, placing walls in every gap and ultilising the existing buildings and hedges as part of this barrier. Plugging the gaps in the hedges was quite tricky, but once linked back to the bridge on the otherside it meant I had a huge area still in order to build what i want with all turrets pointing at the entrance. I've heard rumours that enemies attacking a settlement can spawn inside it thereby making my defences useless, so if that DOES happen I'll rethink my wall and redo my defences.

Just make sure you put the character in the right kind of shop.
I've got walls halfway around my Sanctuary settlement, a mass load of turrets and artillery pieces tend to keep the piece.

When I finish my next law assignment I'll do a tour of my Sanctuary and link to Youtube here.
As for the actual game, love almost everything. I like that Power Armour is like an exoskeleton, can be upgraded with numerous benefits, the Pipboy menu while piloting one is intergrated into the HUD, all very cool. My only complaints are the obvious "Can't always be wearing it due to limited fuel" so I'm caught between trying to conserve it for later and needed it badly. I do like the ignoring of fall damage and other benefits it supplies. The only other thing I'm disappointed in with PA is the lack of Point Anchorage equivalent. I came into Fallout with 3: GOTY and I was I think Level 8 when I completed Anchorage (first thing I did), so I'm running around with the best armour in the game that never runs out, plus all the awesome weapons and locking spawns in an area to such a low level. Ah, good times.
Enemies wise, I'm loving how much the PS4 adds to things vs the PS3 versions. Like, instead of shuffling along, Mole Rats and Ghouls can leap and act like real creatures, the ability of dogmeat to drag humanoids to the ground and leap on them. Consequentially, things I don't like are how hard it is to shoot those enemies, the durability of those BS Super Mutant Suiciders, the random chance to spawn a legendary enemy even at low level and Deathclaws in general. the first you fight I had the misfortune to spawn as a Legendary Deathclaw, like 1 in a million, and it locked there for future spawns. So I spent an hour camped out with a short hunting rifle on the roof sniping it, before dropping to finish it with a minigun when it has a silver of health because 1 hit kills me even with PA.
One thing that also annoys me slightly is lockpicking is much harder as a product of the much more accurate system the new console provides. You have to be that much more accurate with lockpicking than before so that even novice can be difficult.
Otherwise, quality game. Love the upgrade system for weapons especially, love the settlement building (but wish it was more like Minecraft creative mode because having to build stairs to reach the top of buildings to place stuff is annoying)
