"With respect, your Majesty, now that you are Empress you will have many more important duties and functions to attend. Nobles and commoners alike will have access to your person. This will place you in more danger than you have previously been. As such it is essential that we ensure you have the correct training to deal with situations that should arise, be that reading the intent of rivals at court, remaining calm in stressful situations and even some basic training in self-defence."

"Guard Captain, your thoughts?" "I am deeply saddened, your majesty. Your father was the greatest man I've ever known, a warrior and statesman without peer. The kingdom will feel his loss sorely, but there is not a doubt in my mind that you will live up to his example." Sir Galland said. "And remind me later to speak with you, I have something to give you." It was unbecoming for a warrior to mope about the death of death of a comrade. Death was an inevitable fate that all men must embrace. But the way Emperor Charles died did not sit well with Galland. As Captain of the Guard it was his role to ensure the safety of the royal family against all threats, but to that wasting disease there was not a thing he could do. Watching his friend, the mighty Emperor who turned the tide of the Northern invasion and brought the Empire to a new golden age of prosperity whither away into nothing while he watched helplessly filled him with inconsolable rage and sorrow. Of course to the other inner circle and to the princess he let none of that show. The Silver Knights were the bulwark that the safety of the royal family was built upon and their leader must remain stoic for all to see.

Elizabeth smiled at Galland's words, "Of course, Sir Galland, my father trusted you implicitly, and i thank you for your confidence in me. I will speak with you this afternoon, if our duties allow it."
with a tactful cough, Lady Everstorm stepped forward again and spoke in a polite yet firm tone, the Princess's smile faded and she visibly paled at the mention of rival nobles and the need for self defense.
"You are saying someone might try and have me killed?" She said once her court mage had finished, "Surely my Knights can be counted on protecting me, my father never..."
She paused, her brow furrowed, of course he had not been targeted, he had been trained to hold a sword from birth, Sir Galland had said as much just now, yet she was just a soppy girl with royal blood and a fondness for painting and dancing, what Everstorm was saying made perfect sense and was another harsh reminder of reality.
"I suppose my childhood is really over." she said, half to herself, then spoke up, "Very Well, i will submit myself to your expertise , on the condition it is done privately. I'd rather not have rumors spead on how wofefully ill prepared i am."
She glanced around at the papers on the desk again, spotting a note from the Minister of coin, "although it seems i will be occupied for most of today with matters of state, i don't suppose you could magic everything into line?"
The princess gave a soft, sad little laugh at her own joke, then returned to the chair, pulling her breakfast towards her, "well, better start as we intend to go on, was there anything else?"

Timothy spent some time looking over the dining hall, everything appeared to be in order but you would never know what spots had been missed. Of course the next thing to check on would be the kitchen, it was almost time to start preparing lunch and he would need to make sure everything got to where it needed to go.
"Ah, are we feeding peasants this afternoon?" Timothy said as he smelled the aroma of ham, "Honestly we're going to feed people the remains of some old sow?"
"Seneschal Sylvanus." the head chef said scornfully, "I would have you know that ham is a DELICACY in certain kingdoms and I have learned from the best on how to prepare it to please royal palates."
"Of course, of course." Timothy sighed.
"You need wine to help simmer your mood." the chef replied as he wiped his hands on a rag, soon after walking away a junior chef replaced the dirty rag with a clean one. "I do have some news for you though." the chef said with a look of concern.
"What news would that be, Francios?" Sylvanus said happily, "Everything is actually going as planned?"
"No, Seneschal." Francois said glumly, "Some members of the staff said that some man was trying to break in through the courtyard door. He ran when someone called for the guards so they didn't get a clear sight of him, but they said he looked rough."
"Francois." Timothy began slowly as he rubbed his temples with his thumb and forefinger, "I... thank... you for the information. We need to be extra careful while we wait for the coronation but now I'll need to talk to the captain of the guard and maybe even that inquisitor."
"A butler's work is never done my friend." Francois said, returning to his cooking.
"That's why I became Seneschal, silly me thought it would somehow have less work." Timothy said as he walked out of the kitchen, stopping a nearby maid he asked for the location of the guard captain and the inquisitor. He thanked her politely as he made his way to the Inquisitor's reported location. "Why couldn't I have just been caught once when I was younger?" he thought to himself, "Then I wouldn't be Seneschal, I wouldn't even be a butler. I could have been a fisherman or a farmer, I wouldn't have much to my name but at least I wouldn't have as much stress. Now I have to find this inquisitor and he'll ask me for more information than I know and that takes time, too much time. Why couldn't we just change tradition and crown her now?" he continued thinking as he walked towards the inquisitor.

Vinters was reflecting up the morning's events. Slow day today. Neither Orcesaie or Vanthe had detected any black magic being used within a mile, so Vinters had taken the opprotunity to read, and then observe the sermon down at the city chapel. It had been boring, as usual. An inquisitor's purvue was not always books and words, after all.
Now he sat on the courtyard steps, quill scratching away at the paper as he sketched the stables opposite him. It kept the mind sharp.
"Inquisitor?" he heard, in the distance. A slightly flustered voice, but it carried authority, and he knew it well.
"What is it Sylvanus?" he asked, without turning around.

"I suppose my childhood is really over." Gerald over heard this and took the opportunity to enter the discussion. "Not so mil-lady" he said, walking calmly to stand beside the two figures in firm discussion before her Majesty and nodding to them in respect, looking forwardly to catching up with them when time allowed. He glanced went quickly back to the young lady and he had to quickly find himself as he started to see the many resembling features of her parents in her eyes and face. "Just because you are to be queen does not mean that one must abandon all that which you once enjoyed and the wonder of the world, it merely means you must show a sense of maturity and understanding of what is expected of you." He allowed a grin to form on his face, mostly covered by a rugged but well kept beard before he continued. "I assure you, your Father and I spent many a time along the shores of the lake skimming stones ideally or hunting for sport while discussing important matters of state, there is no reason you cannot still enjoy yourself. We must merely take great care in your protection. There is a great deal I could teach you..." he paused, guesturing with his hand to Dania and Galland as he realised he would of sounded pompous and changed his words. " "We all do, and although I dare not speak for another, I am sure we all will give it unreservedly"He gave a smile as he glance turned to Dania and Galland, both whom he knew quite well but not as well as he would of liked. Although he had never had cause to spend time in their company due to his chosen isolation, the late King had always spoken very highly of them and he knew and trusted their judgement. "Perhaps ... perhaps at your leisure, we could all journey into the forest. I would greatly enjoy showing your majesty on how to notice the smallest of details and understanding their meanings. It would also be a good opportunity for us to all become better acquainted whilst ensuring you are well protected." He gave a boyish grin to Galland. "I know the Guard Captain will never allow anything to happen whilst he is near""It is merely an offer mil-lady, to be taken should you wish to at your leisure. I certainly do not wish to impose myself on any plans Dania or Galland wish to make"He bowed politely, suddenly nervous to have all eyes on him in this setting. At this moment he'd much rather be tracking the bear that had attacked several goats in past few days, but this was more important, it was a matter of state and his duty and he would never shy away from it as long as he drew breath.

"Inquisitor?" he heard, in the distance. A slightly flustered voice, but it carried authority, and he knew it well. "What is it Sylvanus?" he asked, without turning around. "Well Inquisitor, you seem to have nothing to do so before lunch is on your plate how about I put something on it?" Timothy said almost cheerfully, "One of the kitchen staff reports seeing a rough looking vagabond attempting to break in to the castle through the door in the courtyard. I trust that as an inquisitor something like this would pique your interest and I trust that as an inquisitor you will be very inquisitive in this matter, maybe even find out who it was." The inquisitor stared at him for a small amount of time, "I see, and is there anything more to report on this unknown individual?" "Not that I am currently aware of, the man ran away as soon as someone called for the guards." Timothy shrugged, "The man is either smart or a coward, I figured it best to leave an actual investigation to an individual such as yourself. You check for fingerprints and I wipe them off, I just ask that you make it quick... I want to make sure the door is still in proper working order and presentable."

"Right." He knocked on the door to the chapel. "Orcesai, come on, we have a job to do"
Orcesai nodded silently and fell into step behind him. She was good at responding to orders, and would doubtless make a fine inquisitor someday.
However, the inquisition was a hard life. one didn't stay pretty for long, and there was no time for makeup. Inquisitors always looked like a rather rough bunch, and Orcesai was no different. She wore hard boiled leather and chainmail, and her head, under it's mail hood was completley shaven in the back, with only a short crop of it in the front, so it wouldn't interfere with the tiny links. There was no inch of either of them left bare to the imagination, and Orcesai was also, like most female inquisitors, forced to wear a very constricting wrap around her chest under the armor so that it wouldn't get in the way during battle. A multitude of scars lined her visage, including one through her left eye, which was milky white and drained of color.
"Some vagabond tried to break into the kitchen. Where's Vanthe?"
"He's off to find the town crier." Her voice was just as un-feminine as she was, a low, husky growl.
"Eclipse's arse. Fine. We'll do it without him." He turned to the seneschal. "Lead the way, Sylvanus. And lets run, shall we? Also how long ago was this? Might we be able to catch the man?" these last words were said at a dead sprint. The Inquisition never slacked.

"There's..." Timothy began before attempting to catch up with the inquisitor, "little chance to catch the man at the scene, he's ran away already... why are we running to where he isn't anyways?"
Upon arrival to the spot Timothy panted and hunched over, "This is the door, it's still here, just as I thought it would be." he began to regain his composure, "I don't know when it happened, just that it did. Perhaps an hour ago, maybe later or earlier. I've been busy, but I believe Marcel spotted him first. Marcel should be easy to find, he smells of potatoes. Now if you excuse me, I need to go find the guard captain to make sure he knows to do something regarding the guards."
Timothy noticed some scuff marks on the door itself and some residue on the door's handle, with a grimace he looked away "Just do it quickly, that door needs to be cleaned and I refuse to have the staff deliver lunch outdoors. I don't want to possibly imagine them spilling food on the ground, much harder to clean than a floor.".

A few hours had passed since Sir Galland had been dismissed from the Princess's study. He made the rounds around the castle keep ensuring that each of the Silver Knights stationed was up to expectations. They were of course. Only the most exemplar from that already elite band of warriors were chosen by Galland himself to make up their regent's most immediate line of defense. They knew this fact and bore it proudly, striving to do their utmost under the supervision of their Captain and the Princess. The rounds were more of a formality for Galland, a way to keep a schedule and prevent sluggishness from setting in. He would lead them in drills later in the day.
Now he stood outside the door to the Princess's study. His Lieutenant, a tall woman by the name of Onika was with him. Many Silver Knights were born into Knightly households and trained from birth, but just as many were inducted from the ranks of the common soldiery as a tribute to exemplary deeds. Onika was the latter. They spoke quietly so the Princess could not hear them through the door.
"How does Her Majesty seem?" Onika asked
"She is saddened, but that is to be expected. In fact, she's handling her grief better than most people her age." Galland said. "The Princess is strong, stronger than many give her credit for."
"Of course, sir. I would never imply otherwise."
"Good, good. We must be vigilant in the coming days, Onika. The nobility is worse than a nest of vipers and I have no doubt that at least one has ill intentions for the Princess. Now if you'll excuse me, I must speak with Her Majesty. Inspect the outer guard posts and report back to me on any news you find pertinent." Galland said. Onika bowed and left to carry out her tasks as the Guard Captain turned and knocked politely on heavy and ornate oaken doors of the study. He pushed them open and stepped in. The Princess was still seated at her desk and she looked up as Galland entered.
"Your Majesty, is this a good time?" Galland asked with a polite bow.
