Just a little thread to gauge interest for an idea I've had at the back of my mind for awhile. It would be quite different from the usual - a modern day game with a focus on character-driven drama in an unusual setting full of mystery, puzzles and challenges. What will be your goal? Survival? Exploration? Domination? Will you team up with others or move as a lone wolf rather than risk betrayal? Perhaps in the end, not the trials and travails you face will defeat you, but the dark secrets concealed by your erstwhile companions...
This wouldn't be the most super demanding game post-wise, with more of a focus on posting regularly over doing massive posts. I haven't wanted to start a new game while Shadow War is running, but that game is so damn big and has so much weight behind it that at this point it's inevitable that it will reach a good and proper ending, especially with the Christmas holidays coming up - everyone will have far more time to really get momentum going there again.
Anyway, back to this idea. It is very different from a lot of the epic fantasy and sci-fi games. There might be elements of science fiction and other wilder elements that you encounter, as this game would not be limited by any rules but my own imagination. It could be a lot of fun.
I'd cap off the player limit at 12, I think - might seem like a lot, but consider this: it is potentially quite a dangerous game, depending on how intelligently or violently you guys decide to play.
So yeah, without giving away any details, let's hear it. Who's interested?
(To be clear, this will not take priority over Shadow War if it goes ahead. It's a very different beast, mostly because I want to stretch my GMing wings a bit more, having been doing the same thing for very nearly an entire year come December 20th)

Everyone will RP as ordinary modern day people, each with their own past, ambitions and desires, traumas, embarrassments, proud achievements, etc. They'll be very fleshed out, and hopefully provide quite a down to earth feeling compared to games such as Shadow War where it's millions of years in the future and everyone's an indoctrinated killing machine (god I love that game though).
Suffice to say, these characters - having never met each other - will suddenly find themselves removed from their day-to-day lives, waking up in a strange, unfamiliar place. Who brought them here, and for what purpose, is simply one of the mysteries your characters can try to unravel. Or not. Your character can say 'screw this' and just try to make a run for it, or they can delve deeper down the rabbit hole.
As a GM I'll be aiming to challenge you as players, not just your characters, to provide a very interesting and entertaining, if not challenging, game. It will be extremely character driven however, with your individual choices not being remotely limited by anything except the constraints of your character and your own imagination. Want to kill another character? The only things potentially stopping you will be the circumstances of the situation and most likely that other character, and any allies they've made. That's an extreme example of how things will work, but you get the idea. Obviously something like that will be handled event style, but even then I will try to take a minimalist approach and let the players choices dictate what happens.
Here's a character sheet for those interested. It comes in two parts, because only half of it will be publicly visible, and the rest is to simply be PM'd to me privately. Oh, and something to keep in mind: your characters don't necessarily have to be good people, just because they are 'ordinary' - after all, that includes pretty much everyone out there. Of course they could also be perfectly nice. I will set one limitation: characters must be at least 16 years old. Other than that I couldn't care less whether you made them 105 years old to be quite honest.
Public:
Player name: Character name: Gender: Facial description: (I'll also accept pictures if you use some form of decent character creation to construct their appearance, e.g. Fallout 4 or The Sims. Also describe how old they appear to be, keeping in mind looks can be deceiving) Body description: (height, level of athleticism/strength or lack thereof, etc, try to be detailed as when your characters first meet all they will know about each other is what they can see) Clothes: (whatever they happened to be wearing on the day they find themselves in this predicament) Other:
Private:
Dominant Personality Traits: (the characteristics that most define them) Minor Personality Traits: (less commonly displayed, possibly deliberately hidden aspects of your character that they might not want to show off, e.g. a tough man's man secretly is a coward and could never hurt a fly, or a crippling phobia of dogs for example) Traumas: (any past events that have perhaps left some severe psychological scars. You don't have to put any, but in someone's lifespan it's likely they'll have at least one particularly difficult and marking experience) Age: Date of Birth: Career: Past Jobs/experiences: Ambitions: Achievements: Failures: (things your character screwed up, regrets, is ashamed of etc) Hobbies: Likes: Dislikes: Habits: (we all have them, from small, barely noticeable things to major 'tells' when under pressure) Important Skills: (these may be vital during the game) Minor Skills: (you're not talented at these things, but still more capable than the average person) Family: Noteworthy Crimes: Prison Time: (if any) Fears: Phobias: Secrets: (particularly compromising, dangerous or embarrassing things, especially if they could affect how other characters perceive them. Everyone must have at least three, if not more) Background: (what shaped this person into who they are? You may want to revise this a few times to ensure it's as fleshed out and logical as possible) Other:
Remember: PM the full sheet to me and then I will post a list of characters with only the 'public' information.

I've found myself pondering character ideas and this RP in particular, so, why not? I'm in too.

Been pondering some characters as well. I want to be like Foxy Cleopatra so I can type like a sassy black woman.

I've received Harrab's character. However, I'll wait until I receive a significant amount of characters before posting them publicly.
