Ladies and Gentlemen, Your Elemental and Ward Instructor
Character name: Karren Undertow
Race:Human
Gender: Female
Life Goal: To Silence her inner Turmoil
Quirks: Rather Lazy at times, yet quick to anger and even quicker to lash out.
Appearance:
Fire, Water, Earth, Air. Long believed to be the root of everything, the elements still command respect to this day for the sheer destruction they can wreak. Earthquakes can topple the mightiest citadel, yet mountains endure, Fire brings warmth and death with equal ease, Water is life itself, but even a mouthful can kill you, and Air fills every mortal being and can errode immortal stone in its rage.
Not for nothing have they long been the weapon of choice of Magi, and their study is almost as long as Magic itself. Several sub-elements were revealed, the original four mixed together Water could become Ice, Fire could become lightning, Earth led to rupturing Metal. Air was both all and none, Pure and mixed with everything, free and unbowed.
Karren Undertow knows them all. But Not without Cost
Born in the eastern islands to a noble family, her first years were happy and her every need was fulfilled. She was somewhat spoiled, but her mother made sure she knew the limits of want before it became greed and it looked like she would grow up into a fine young noblewoman and a worthy wife to any man.
That was untill the gift of magic showed itself. It should have started minor, like most do. A thought turned to light, then a few careful experiments by the child and a vist by a Magi to confirm.
The first Kerren knew of her magic was when she killed her family and burned down their home. She had argued with her father as teenagers do, heated words were exchanged, but hers became real fire, her angry stomps brought up the bones of the earth and her yells became a storm she couldn't control until everything she loved was gone.
The Inquisitors arrived an hour or so after the dust had settled, the nearest drawn to her from miles away by the powerful magical energy unleashed and would have slain her on the spot if not for the intervention of a old monk, who vouched for the grief stricken girl and explained what had happened. The Inquisitor examined the girl, then said that he believed the Monk's tale, and so Kerren was escorted to Silver Hall t learn how to contain herself. To her Surpise, the Monk came with her.
Her time as a student was fraught with disruptions and punishments by staff for magical fluxes brought on by her temper, several students where injured but none died by her hand, the only thing preventing her execution, but always there was the Monk, named Tensen, to calm her and teach her how to be calm again. She could never remain so for long, it was a part of her nature, but with his help she managed to avoid serious injury and get a firm grip on her powers, and with Tensen's encouragement, she learned how to manage Wards too.
It was not long after she gained her Licence In Elemental and Ward Magic and Tensen, now almost ninety, had returned to their old home and died peacefully in his sleep, but he had known its coming and had taken his young friend aside before his departure and asked her to help other children as he had helped her. She returned to Silver Hall and just taken when the messenger arrived with news of his death, and to the surprise of all that knew her, she only smiled with tear-rimmed eyes and walked into her first ever class. To teach others how to control their anger and grief. To honour her old and dearest friend.
