(To be built up over time, and when I can be bothered )
The end is the means of the beginning. As long as man has existed there has been those which seek only to destroy it. The creatures of darkness; the tormented folk, the supernatural and our own half breeds, they stalk the night and haunt the spaces in-between, we would surely be consumed if it was not for the hunters. They fight the secret war and stand our final light and only barrier against the falling dark. If they where to fail...may God have mercy on our unfortunate souls.

Hunters; The Light in the Dark
Tsarist Society of Hunters (cyrillic: Царская общества охотников) (Courtesy of Coolyo)
The Tsarist Society of Hunters was a hunter organization formed in 1699 by Peter the Great following his Great Pilgrimage. Inspired by the hunter societies he found in western Europe, the Tsarist Society of Hunters (henceforth referred to as tTSoH) were formed to check the growing power of the Dark Forces in Russia. Initial recruits were drawn from sources all across the empire, ranging from Ukrainian woodsmen to Muscovite military nobility. Wealth and social class were not considered. They were afforded the finest training and equipment that the government and the Russian could offer, a necessary expense given the natural brutality possessed by native Russian vampires and werewolves.
For two centuries tTSoH protected the Russian people from all evil that dwelt in the dark. But following the October Revolution of 1917, many members were purged as supporters of the monarchy by the successful Bolshevik revolutionaries. The remaining members were forced into hiding, divided into small cells and enclaves scattered across the vast nation. Despite this, they continued to root out the forces of darkness wherever they could find, their mission too important to let petty matters interfere.

The Tormented Folk; Demons
The world ends with a bang, in an event so cataclysmic that it shall break the plains and fracture time itself. It will happen, it has happened; it is happening, fire, dust and ash. It echoes on a loop as time ceases to exist, sending fragments back into our own time to torment and haunt us; Demons, the tormented folk, once they where human, now they are nothing more than mindless beasts, seeking only to force their own suffering upon us.
Jumpers
All of the tormented folk exist outside of time in the space between plains. But none seem to have the same effect on time as the jumper. Time seems to bend for them, what is a second for us may well be ten for them. Jumpers often abduct their victims, and by bending time around them are able to deposit their victim either forward or backwards in time.

The Supernatural; The Falling Dark
The creatures of the night. The Supernatural are those of which their existence defies logic, through demonic influence or divine punishment. Yet they exist, most supernatural creatures where humans once, their affliction passed on through the passing of some form of liquid specific to the creature, others can be caused through a curse an unholy ritual or for reasons unknown. Nevertheless, these creatures seek to destroy or control us as such they must be hunted.

Half-Breeds; Creatures of Science and Magic
The average man is always in the fight against the darkness. Therefore, it often becomes tempting for man to take their enemies strengths and make them their own. Such dark experiments rarely work, man is never meant to dabble with what they don't understand. Through dark pacts and failed experiments a half breed is born. Almost all of these creatures are originally created through the most noble of intentions, a chance to even the odds. In the end this knowledge is simply never meant to be understood by man and almost always ends with the half-breed joining the ranks of those it was supposed to fight.
Grey Men (Courtesy of Coolyo)
Easily identified by their ashen grey skin and blank white eyes, Grey Men (or women) are magic users who have in some way lost their soul to the dark forces that they think they control. As a result, their lifespans are increased and the power of their casting becomes dramatically stronger. Most specialize in dark magics, like daemonancy (or whatever the equivalent of summoning and controlling demons is in this universe) or necromancy but a few practice other "violent" arts like pyromancy. Regardless of their field of magic, Grey Men are almost always more powerful than their human equivalents.
Some Grey Men voluntarily become so by sacrificing their souls to the Lower Plane through dark rituals. They do this usually to achieve the greater power and longevity that comes with becoming a Grey Man. These are usually the most dangerous, darkly powerful individuals who are willing to sacrifice anything and anyone to achieve their plans. Others become Grey Men on accident, perhaps a magical researcher who delved too deeply into things no human should delve into and lost their mind and soul in the process.
Grey Men hold an odd place in the world. Some are loners, operating on the fringes of society pursuing their own mysterious goals. Other more charismatic individuals become leaders, heading cults or sorcerous cabals in order to further their research and schemes. Some aren't even evil, bitter of their condition and seeking revenge, so they aid more radical hunters in the Long War against the forces of darkness. Unfortunately these are the very rare.
The price of a Grey Man's near immortality is a simple one. For their longevity to be sustained, they must consume human souls. For younger Grey Men this is not a problem, for they would only have to consume one or two souls a month. But as they get older they amount and frequency of souls consumed increases until they cannot possibly hope to meet the demand. It is at this point that the abomination will finally die, its soulless body turning to dust as it simply cannot keep functioning. This is the fate all Grey Men face and the fate they all fear.
