Alex stumbled for a moment, holding onto the side of the tram to hold himself steady. A few drops of blood ran from his nose, quickly wiped away with the back of his hand. His implants were prototypes and didn’t just come with positives.
“Shado, talk to me,” Muttered Alex as he brought his composure back.
I’m in but that bitch of an AI has got me locked up, replied Shado angrily, it better not stay like this or I’m not going to be that useful for you. Talking to the Captain may help though…
“Alright alright!” said Alex, stepping off the tram and heading towards the bridge, “The AI said anything stupid?”
Oh nothing important, just that it’ll delete me and say I’m just a hack, replied Shado sarcastically.
“Did you knock?” asked Alex, storming up the corrider with a brisk pace, the bridge doors in sight.
It obviously doesn’t like neighboors, replied Shado, remember to be nice towards Captain Lucy, it’ll count….probably. Unless you want to go all gunslinger but that’s not really an option. Oh and introductions go along way too, no confusion to add.
“Got it,” muttered Alex, walking from the bridges and seeing Lucy at her chair. He walked up to her, hands clasped behind his back, ignoring to give a salute.
“Captain Lucy, I’m Alex Walker, the guy who got hired to handle security. I've got a problem which you can solve,” he paused for a moment, pulling Shados’ chip from his neck and inserting it into the small pad strapped to his arm. Within a moment Shados’ avatar was shown in 3D, “This is Shado, my AI though we consider ourselves a team. She’s going to need access to the ships system else my job will be a lot harder. That means having the ships AI giving her space.” Another pause, “I’m sure you of all people will understand the need. AIs can be good friends.

Almost all the engineers had left the bridge, having finished the diagnostics and setting the reactor on its start up cycle, leaving Lucy to herself to monitor the ship and its crew. She was never one for looking people up, but this new crew of mismatched officers and ex-military personnel intrigued her greatly. She had always seen what the military type were like, but never after they were done in the service, as it was usually a life thing. The prospect of getting their views on the problems they would face made Lucy actually happy for once to meet people.
Lucy decided to pull up her main officers files first, being the people she would have the most contact with, and sifted through their profiles, histories, and medical charts. She wasn't really suppose to access their medical files, but if it helped her in their interactions she wasn't one to discount them. She only glazed over those, ignoring the revealing parts and instead looking at medical conditions and the such. Interestingly most were healthy, with only her gunnery officer suffering from a respiratory problem brought on by an accident at a young age, and a curious marine who carried around a surprisingly classified medical record. She didn't question their pasts, knowing everyone had them, and most of the time they only brought back pain, instead focused on what they were here for. Most seemed to have signed up to get away from the ground and into the deep black abyss of space, but in a way that avoided military sign-ups or rebel actions.
Lucy was happy with the officer set she had found, and was looking forward to working with them, all having been selected for their skills and backgrounds. A few lines of warning and text flashed across her glasses, moving rapidly but not fast enough for her to grab the general details. Something about an intruding system, but Lucy passed it off for a glitch in the ships start up mistaking either her captains UI access or the AI`s access. Then the thought came across her mind flashing back to the past. That is when the AI sent a small ping notifying her she was doing something automated about an intrusion. "See, nothing to worry about," Lucy said to herself letting out a sigh of relief.
Getting up, Lucy paced the upper part of the bridge, waiting for her officers to all report in, and monitoring the final phases of the reactor start up. The familiar subtle vibration of a military ship could be felt as the reactor kicked into action and took on the power requirements of the ship. A few green lines of text scrolled down her glasses with info on the read-outs and stress tests, informing her of the ships successful boot up and readiness. She moved back over to her captains chair and sat down before entering the final codes to unlock the ships full control over to her.
That`s when the doors to the bridge slid open and the current security chief, Alex Walker, walked in with arms behind his back. He was tall and built with light brown hair, that reminded Lucy of a boy she had a crush on when she was young. He wore his formal attire, lacking the security MK.2 armored suit his job entitled, and was rather charming in his manner.
Lucy watched the man walk up, with an obvious agitation about something the way he forced a smile and ignored a salute. She cared not for the salute, they weren't in a military vessel, but the action was a sign of trust and that was clearly one he did not show towards her. She pushed off her analytical thoughts and brought her head up to acknowledge the man.
“Captain Lucy, I’m Alex Walker, the guy who got hired to handle security. I've got a problem which you can solve,” he paused for a moment, pulling a chip from his neck and inserting it into a small pad strapped to his arm. Within a moment an avatar was shown in 3D, “This is Shado, my AI though we consider ourselves a team. She’s going to need access to the ships system else my job will be a lot harder. That means having the ships AI giving her space.” Another pause, “I’m sure you of all people will understand the need. AIs can be good friends." The man said, with a slightly emphasize on the last part.
Lucy ignored the last part, knowing he had probably pulled up her files as well and knew about her old friend, and stood up only coming to eye level even from the raised platform.
"Chief Walker, not one for introductions, straight to the point. I can admire that," Lucy said with a friendly step in her voice, "but where I can see the point you come from, I can only grant you a small access for your AI. You yourself can access the files you need already as well as security camera`s and features. You`re personal AI was not known to me, and so hasn't been granted any access. But I`ll allow her access to the same things of security features, crew general files, and a very small amount of processing space inside the ship." Lucy cleared her throat while pushing a few buttons to bring up access rights and the such before continuing on. "But as you are well aware of, we have a ship AI and she isn't to be impeded in the least by yours. I will not be afraid to have you ejected if your AI causes problems or is caught snooping around. Otherwise, yes your AI is free to access what I have just allowed. I`ll inform the AI if she isn't already aware." Lucy finished with a warm smile.

Alex kept a stern face, giving Lucy a short nod to acknowledge what she had said. In a fluid motion he took the chip from the pad, pushing it back into his socket on his neck, "Good to hear; Shado is the AIs' name by the way." He had to admit, for all she's suffered Lucy was holding up well for her history, in front of other people anyway. Time to inform my 'little sister', teased Shado, I'll get your feed up soon, hope you miss me. Alex merely sighed, forgeting Lucy was still in the room, "She likes to talk and some of the things she says....its sighable."
He let out a short cough, "If I may be so bold, what do you intend to do with your new ship Captain?"
Shado went back into the system of the ship, So you know that part where you threatened to delete me? Shado asked, That -won't- be happening anytime soon. Unless you want to piss the Captain off which I highly doubt. So now...this'll be like a house, miss Housekeeper. Oh but don't worry, I prefere the "Chief" Walkers' head then here, it's so....clean in here. Understood?

Lucy was starting to dislike the charming man, he came off as driven by something other than what he put out, she`d have to dig into his past and around those classified documents later. Regardless, she also noticed the AI core heat up, Bismarck was dealing with the new Ai probably. Lucy made a note to talk to the ship AI later. This all happened in a few seconds, what simply felt like a pause to think was how fast Lucy processed the info and came to conclusions. She keyed a few buttons on her chair to ping the AI, and then looked back at Walker with the same smile.
"Chief Walker, if I were to ask you how to do my job, I would be where you stand and you where I stand," Lucy said with a hint of disdain, "But nay, that is not how it was to be. I`m the captain and I will do as I see fit, you were hired on to make sure people behave and general protection of me and the crew, might I remind you to let me do my job and you do yours." She let the weight of what she said sink in before continuing, "Our current objective is finding work, as to what kind is yet to be determined, I will inform you of possible contracts soon. Until then, make sure all crew report in and check out. And make that on the double Walker, I want those files in 15 minutes."
Lucy didn't let him get off a response before sitting back down in her chair, and getting back to work, checking the star grid and the course set towards the outer parts of civilization. The thought didn't make her happy, but it was where the best work for their ship was to be found, and money spoke across the galaxy. She quickly pulled out her holo-keyboard and activated the chairs swivel to face the view port out of the bridge.
The final tubes and cables were being disconnected by a flurry of little automated robots as the final call for personnel to report to their stations was called throughout the station and ship. Lucy gazed at the mechanical dance the small engineerbots went through removing the stuff their human-counterparts weren't strong enough to do, and it amused her, but she pulled herself back to reality and the goals at hand. She started to go once more through the ships status`s making sure everything was in place, while keying the same button again to try and get Bismarck`s attention. She wanted to know about this Walker and his shady AI, and why the hell his files were all classified.

"I obey the Captains Orders. Her Word is my Law" Bismark replied to Shado simply, the firewalls around the smaller AI did not vanish, but she could feel her programing now had openings to use, "You now have access to internal sensors and cameras, interior doors are still my purview in light of damage control simulations, Sister."Although it was impossible to convey emotion in these light-speed data transfers, Shado felt animosity in that last word. Captain's Aproval or not, This AI did not like the smaller "Inform me of any internal security matters you discover and i will pass them on to the captain," Bismarck continued. "You are now recognized as Crew Equptment. I look forward to further exchanges of Data." On the Holopad beside Lucy's Chair, Bismarck materialized her avatar, which saluted the Captain, "Intruder AI has been added to Asset files and given the accesses you requested, Captain and while i was under the impression i was able to brute force past its external intrusion barriers. I'm Sorry to say its history is highly encrypted, military grade, and its CPU power, although it isfar below mine." The Avatar took on haughtily expression, "I have to admit is more capable than any personal assistant AI available in the civilian sector. i can keep trying to crack the files if you wish." The Avatar folded its arms and tilted its head slightly as if listening, "All stations have reported in, all hands accounted for and at their stations. Reactor is hot and engines are primed. If you contact Dock Control we can request for the final clamps to be disengaged for launch."
Bismarck Personality Trait discovered: Dislikes other AIs on her Network.

Kenny looked at his new 'Office': two walls were covered in monitors watching over the Medical bay and research labs, a holo screen table he always hated them and his desk and chair. This was a new kind of pain in the ass but if his package arrived it wouldn't be as bad, he just hopped the cargo guys didn't throw it around if it gets on board.
"lets see the medical records." Kenny mumbled to himself as his hands swept over the Holo table bringing up all personnel.
CREW RECORDS
MEDICAL ACCESS REQUIRED
WELCOME OFFICER KENNY ORIAN
The files began to pop up showing who had the most medical problem most of them were things like the common cold, the odd STD or minor cybernetics like a lost finger or a missing foot.
OFFICERS RECORDS MEDICAL ACCESS REQUIRED ACCESS DENIED
'Great' Kenny though to himself as the pop up kept flashing.
"How im I meant to keep a eye on the crews well being if it won't let me check the officers!" He growled his cybernetic eye flashed around the room and saw a camera following him walking around, He knew what this was and wanted to sort something out.
"A.I Why i'm I locked out of Officer's records and why are you watching me like a Hawk?" Kenny questioned the Artificial Intelligence.

MED BAY OFFICE The AI responded instantly from the wall speakers, her hologram appeared on the pad and she saluted. "I watch everyone, Mr Orian, to be prepared to respond to their needs. Records were sealed due to a hacking attempt. Standby." The hologram gestured with a sweep of an arm, and lines of data ran up and down before it. "I have given you access. Please note personnel files may not be copied or removed from the main hub. How else may i assist you?"

Wilco wandered into his office and looked round. He decided the term *Office* was not even slightly apt. The room was only just about 3 metres squared, with a small desk on the one side and cabinets on the other leaving just enough room to get a chair in.
He settled in and booted the console, logging in using his credentials and having a quick play with the system and checking over the supplies onboard. He glanced back to inspect the cabinets and noticed his name was written on one, and several other names on all the others. "Great" He muttered to himself "I don't even get my own office, I have to share it with everyone" He sighed and shook his head, returning his gaze back to the console and logged off. Somehow he has just lost all enthusiasm for his new office and stepped back out into the cargo area.
He overheard a small ruckuss on the far side and walked over. He soon found the source of the noise. A small loading arm built into the floor and consisting of several articulated pieces used for the loading and offloading of storage boxes was twisting bucking quickly and randomly. Everytime a crew member tried to duck under the arm of the machine each time it stopped it would quickly swing again followed by a crew member jumping back quickly to avoid potentially being hit. "Blasted thing" One of the crew shouted. "I knew I hadn't set it up correctly. Blasted thing gone crazy. I'm gonna get hell for this!"
Wilco decided to help, stepping forward and ducking down, joining the others as each readied themselves for a possible angle to get at the off switch. He tensed as he saw an opening, just as another crew member jumped forward, nearly getting his hand on the off button as the arm swung back round on another pass. He raised his arm to defend himself as he tried to tilt his body so he could jump back. The man caught the machine arm with is own, causing him to be flung from his feet and bashed into Wilco and another cargo worker, leaving them in a heap on the floor but no injuries other than to their pride.
"You're a bunch of fucking idiots!!!" A loud shout came from against the wall as they noted an officer. Waiting a couple of seconds while everyone looked at him he purposely bashed his fist into the emergency stop button for that section. Instantly the machine and several others stopped in their tracks, allowing the original worker to reach under the arm and press the off button so it wouldn't carry on it's rampage when power was restored.
Brushing himself off, a rather sheepish Wilco slinked away.

Cargo Hold Wilco heard a loud laugh from behind him as he tried to extract himself from the bustle of crewmen, a woman in a void-suit-enhanced jumpsuit and carrying the largest multitool he had seen over one shoulder, was leaning in the doorway to the tiny office, arms folded as she watched the commotion. Behind her head was the folded plates of the helmet, the whole suit looked like it had been thrown around in a drum for weeks. "You've never been on a Cargo floor, have you?" The Woman said, her voice raised to be ehard over the noise and yelled orders around them, She stood and waved off the angry officer and to Wilco's Surprise, saluted him. "I'm Crew Leader Samantha Swing - smirk now, i'm used to it- I'm in charge of the rosters, cargo inspections and ensuring both the gunnery stations and engineering get what they want when they want, when the shit hits the fan, you'll need to assist Engineering in patching stuff. And you're my Boss, Bismarck tells me. Despite never being on a ship before. Odd." She shrugged, "It'll not be a problem, Destroyers like this don't have much cargo space to worry about, mainly we have to keep the guns and engines fed, oh and the crew too of course." She regarded his clothing critically, "yeah, total Sand-Shoe. First, Get a Void-suit from stores and get used to wearing it. This is a combet vessel, people like to put holes in them. Second, stop getting involved in everything yourself, you get a higher paygrade, a renegade loading arm is out of your bracket. Third, Stop gawking and act like a Cargo Chief." Crew leader Swing, folded her arms again and tapped her temple with a finger, "Oh, and forth, get a headset or a comm implant, this place gets noisy when the auto-loaders are working and you need to be connected. Bismark's been having a fit trying to contact you." Crew Leader Samantha Swing

Wilco stared up at the young woman dumbfounded as she spoke, his mind racing as he took in all that she said. As his mind tried to formulate a response to the woman he noticed that a few seconds had gone by where she had stopped talking.
He reached up and adjusted his glasses into a more comfortable position, more out of a nervous reaction than a need and he used that time to compose himself, slowly standing up and instinctively grabbing her hand to shake her hand. "Quite right" he responded, taking her words as advice rather than criticism.
"I'm not even going to pretend I know everything I need to do here, but I'm a quick study and have been doing my research before starting. I'll swing by and update my wardrobe and get in touch with the computer. Thank you for your cander" He smiled and nodded, motioning that he was going to walk out of the tiny box room and slipped out through the gap.
As he walked towards the stores for the suits and headsets he kept going over what Swing had said to him, she certainly wasn't someone who held her opinions back and quite honestly, he liked that. He just hoped he could live up to the title and perform well enough to get a promotion out of this field and onto the bridge. Give it time, he kept saying to himself. Be grateful you're even here. Repeating the mantra over and over in his mind as he reached for the suit and changed.
Picking up the headset whilst wriggling in his new attire he managed to get the headset settled somewhat comfortably. He cleared his throat and pressed the button. He knew this computer was different to the basic AI's he'd used on his uncle's farm but he seriously didn't know what to make of this *Bismark* thingy madgigy. "Err ... Computer ... Bismark computer thingy ... erm ... Cargo Chief Wilco calling Bismark computer AI, respond" he stammered uncertainly into the mic. *god darn it* he muttered to himself. *What are the darn voice commands this computer thing responds too?* he continued, having only ever used basic AI's that could only respond and understand simple phrases and commands.
