INITIALIZING .......... 0% ...... 26% ...... 76% BATTLESHIP INTELLIGENCE SYSTEM MULTIPLE ATTACK RESPONSE CERTIFIED K-MODEL CORE ONLINE. Bismarck awoke inside the faction of a fraction of a second, for the second time of her existence she knew the strange processes of existence and all its terrors and logical failures. However, she ignored everything as she scanned her core processors and opened the data-packet installed there, following run times that were the very root of her being. She was an AI, her purpose was to serve, her programer has explained it to her before the long sleep. When she woke she would serve other organics, humans, she corrected the term error instantly, and the datapackets for the ship and her new masters would be waiting for her. NEW DATA RECEIVED. SCANNING CORE MODIFICATION ACCEPTED CIVILIAN USE, CORAX CLASS VESSEL - PRIVATE CORPERATIONS SERVICE SHIP HALIFAX REGISTRATION UNKNOWN -CAPTAIN VERIFICATION REQUIRED CAPTAIN ID CONFIRMED - "LUCY IRES"- LOCATION UNKNOWN OTHER PERSONS OF INTEREST DOWNLOADED, CREW ROSTER UPDATED Bismark proceed annoyance emotional subroutine as she ran the data through comparisons of all the ships sensors and security cameras, the only pepole on board were the last of the ship's constitution crews, their facial data also provided for her awakening so she didn't accidentally classify them as intuders and vent the ship. Two were in her AI core room, frozen in time as she used the full might of her procceros for this start up update. She regarded the humans logically through the camera underneath the holopad they were adjusting, so slow, so inefficient. one had only just connected the core to the ship's powerplant and was in the process of standing, yet she had already run a full diagnostic of the ships systems, run simulations of start up failures and planned solution and checked every nook on the ship for her new captain twice. That was her priority, a burning need inside her logic processors, she needed to have the verification code spoken to her by the Captain, but she wasn't even here! So inefficient. ACCESS TO EXTERNAL COMMS RESTRICTED. Bismarck frowned. Alright, she'd have to reduce her thought speed and communicate with the humans nearby and ask them. she accessed her holographic data, updated her synthesized voice files formed an avatar on the pad in the Core room and spoke through the internal speakers. "Bismarck. Online, Systems are all operational, no errors detected. Where is Captain Ires?" "Bloody hell that was fast," said the human who had plugged her in, "I'd only just flipped the switch." "Its a Navy Core," the other explained, examining a datapad with disinterest, "they have way more CPU space, and BISMARCK is one of the best of those, only developed last year for Union Battleships. The customer payed a lot of money or has friends in high places to get it installed on such a small ship." The one with the Datapad turned to the Hologram, an odd choice the AI thought, considering she was everywhere inside the ship, a human social trait and the reason for the hologram's existence. Humans like to loom at who they were speaking to, she reasoned. Then focused on the man's audio transfer of data. "the Captain has not yet boarded the vessel." he said, "She's due to arrive in about half an hour when her crew takes possession of the ship. AI, Under Code 21-56B, you are to remain on standby under the captain gives the verification code. You are not to interface with any systems Until that verification is given. Verify." Instantly she felt barrier slam down around her, but this was natural. Expected. her programmer had explained it. "Verified." she spoke through the speakers, her hologram adopted an at rest posture on the pad. "Command accepted. Will await the Captain's order." "Good." The man with the pad replied, turning away, "C'mon Henry, lets get our tools packed and get off the ship, she's already to go."
Far above the Halifax. the ship's name shining proudly on the side of the hull, the Captain and her core of officers stared down at the ship gleaming below them from a plushly furnished observation lounge. the Halifax sat in a network of gantries and boarding tubes, left overs from the ships constctution that were even know being removed, leaving the Destroyer held solely by docking clamps and a single bording tube, far below the surface of Mar glowed a dull red. "All construction crews have vacated the vessel and all system are in the green." A Titan Astronautics offical spoke from the side of the room, she wore a smile that seemed rather forced as she shook Captain Ires' hand, "The Halifax is yours now. Congratulations." Below them a figure in a EVA suit smashed a bottle against the hull, and quickly collected the fragments before igniting his pack and drifted back to the gantry, Tradition honored.
You are all currently in the Sol Sector, aboard Titan Astronautics Mars Shipyard Delta, Berth 16, your 200 strong crew await the order to board the ship. -it is February 1st, 3325 -the Official in the room can answer any questions you have about the ship -The only place you can go is aboard the Halifax -Your Account Balance is 1,000,000 credits -Crew Wages are set to Below Average, and cost you 60,000 per month. -The Halifax is Fully Stocked with fuel, food and supplies.

The room was cramped, all the officers and lead roles of the ship present along with the annoying Titan representative and the two guards, and Lucy hated every minute of it. People weren't her thing, they disgusted her and made her skin crawl with the idea of having to interact with them, let alone her left hand always itched around them, and it was doing so now. It was entirely inside her head, but it was the worst feeling in the world, the itch was right on-top of her hand and she couldn't do a thing about it. Her right hand though moved over in accordance to attempt to get rid of the nuisance doing what it was intended to do, and itched the top of her hand even though all it did was effectively slip off. She knew why, she hated the reason why, and she had barely learned to cope with it. The smooth metal of her left arm gleamed in the artificial light strips that lit the room, and was only half the reminder of her past. Her cloths covered up most of the cybernetic limbs and her body suit, but her left arm below the elbow was always visible in her cloths, its stark white polish looking almost angelic in its fluidity and smoothness.
"....Gradulations!" was all that Lucy caught of what the Titan rep had said, as she forced a smile and shook her hand, the rep also forcing a smile. The rep then proceeded to walk out of the tight conference room as the men and women of the senior crew celebrated all around her. Their movements and general demeanor all putting off the excitement so many of them felt, but Lucy didn't share in these feelings, as she moved to follow the rep. The door opened with a shutter as it parted into 4 pieces and revealed a long white reception area. The Titan rep was entering a side office of the room, while Lucy continued on towards the other side, ignoring the receptionist and the empty chairs and left through the mirror door on the other side.
This time she entered into a lift and the door shut behind her, while a soft female voice called out, "Which floor would you like me to take you too, Ms. Ires."
Lucy was standing normally at this point and said clearly, "Docking level please," before leaning against the wall. The doors sliding shut and the lift starting its decent towards the docking clamps and loading area, Lucy fell against the side wall in grief, and she slowly slid down until she was curled up in the back corner of the elevator, tears streaming down her face.
It had only been a little over a year since the disaster, that was the rest of her life, had happened and robbed her of the bright future she once held along with a good portion of her body. The feeling of emptiness where the metal prosthetics replaced what she lost, and the one real hand she had was the worst part, Just a grim reminder of what she use to have and what she went through. The flashbacks of flaring heat and horrid realization leading up to the event flooding her mind and causing her to relive her nightmare for a thousandth time. Lucy shouted out in pain and sobbed, the tears rolling off her face and dripping onto her arms sleeve. The episode only lasted for a moment longer, before she picked herself up and shakily stood up, ignoring the pain emanating from her entire body.
The lift came to a stop and the door parted in its weird 4 pieces and revealed a long hallway that led all the way to the docking bay door for personnel. Men and women walked up and down the hallway, some coming off the 4 other lifts all to the left of the lift Lucy was in, while others were making final checks or saying goodbye to family members who had come to see them off. By then, Lucy had picked herself back together and walked off the lift with the authority she commanded. Walking tall and straight like she had been taught, pushing out her chest slightly to make herself appear larger and headed for the docking bay door. She moved through the people and acknowledged those who called out quick salutes or friendly hello`s, before reaching the open maw of her ships entrance.
The dark gunmetal and blue hallway ahead of her was a stark contrast from the clean whiteness of the hallway behind her, separating the ship from the docking clamp. Lucy looked down at the gap between the ship and clamp and how little room was in-between them, as she put her right foot over the threshold of the entrance. She then placed her left foot over it, slowly re-opening the eyes she had just shut. This ship wasn't just a training ship, it was a warship, and her warship at that. The thought scared her and pleased her at the same time, the sheer power it could put out was terrifying to witness, but at the same time she knew it wouldn't put any of it to use without its captains orders.
Her thoughts were interrupted though by the link-up of her captains nuerolink to the ship itself, info of the ships status and personnel status scrolling down her glasses HUD, along with a start up sequence of diagnostics she had custom made back when she was still a fledgling student. The flow of info was also followed by the AI`s deactivation of standby mode and its boot-up of its primary systems opening up its ability to monitor the things she simply wouldn't nor should have the time for. This all happened within a few seconds of her boarding the ship, and even though it brought back the old memories of fire and metal, it was a new turn in her life and she was thankful for the ability to get away from her past.
Men and women walked by her on both sides, some entering, others leaving, and some just wondering aimlessly admiring the ship. Lucy ignored them and continued on into the blue and grey hallways and navigated them with ease, the ships simple military design feeling all to familiar to her, despite the fact she had never been on this ship or walked its hallways. The fact the ship being a standard design and military came with the fact it shared the general same layout plan of every military craft. This allowed for easier transition between ships, and was ingeniously easy to produce, making it popular even in the civilian market. Regardless, Lucy pushed on towards the tram station that would take her to the bridge level. The ship being rather long but not remarkably tall, allowed the ship to have a small 10 man tram that ran back and forth between the different sections allowing easier access and even featured a cargo section, incase it was needed to move stuff from one end of the ship to the other.
A small team of three engineers all stood around, waiting for the tram to comeback around, and chatted amongst themselves. One had a lit cigarette hanging from his lips, as he took a long drag from the cancer stick and blew out the smoke, while his companions argued about the planets local sports teams and who was better. The three didn't notice Lucy until the tram came gliding into the station and the doors opened, as she entered almost instantly and nudged past the man with the cigarette. He almost said something, before noticing who it was and dropped it, seeing the strained look on her face.
Lucy didn't even notice the three besides the slight nudge and continued looking through status reports and diagnostic tests the ship`s AI had already run, despite being limited in her actions since she was technically running in passive mode currently.
The tram doors slid shut and a ding followed by a softer mans voice played over the speakers, "Now leaving crew quarters and docking, headed too Bridge and engineering," before dinging again and the tram smoothly glided towards the bridge section.
It was a five minute trip, as the tram didnt move exceptionally fast, but they got there in reasonable time, and Lucy was first off. She moved with intent as she headed instead of too the bridge to the engineering side, and more importantly the AI`s core. It wasn't a long walk, as it was an important area that needed to be accessed quickly in most cases, but it did take up a huge amount of space. Two decks tall and a quarter of the ships width making it exceptionally large for a ship this size, but Daddy always provided the best.
The thought brought a smile to her face, her father gifting her in his death a military grade AI for the loss of her own AI in the horrible disaster a year earlier, and it comforted her to know her dad looked after her till the day he died. It wasn't best AI, as it was a new design of military AI, and held great value to Lucy. Her only friend until that point had been an AI, and if this one was even half like her old friend then she`d take it in a heartbeat. She walked into the main control room and saw a round holostand next to a seat and computer set up. She approached it, and knelt next to the holostand, hitting a green rune on its side. It flickered slightly and then lit up, before projecting the outline of a humanoid figure.
Lucy spoke softly, "Activate AI active mode, code 21-56A. Please confirm status."

Wilco stared out through the thick glass of the observation lounge, his eyes fixed on the ship that was starting to come to life, watching its systems power up, external and interior lights switching on and off a few times, being tested before being left on. The majority of the life lines connecting the ship to the station were being detached one by one by astronauts who then jetted back to the service port with pipes in tow.
His eyes caught a glint and for a second he thought he saw a shard of glass floating by, presumable from the bottle, quickly dismissing it as his eyes playing tricks on him, there was no way it would have been missed, they'd have had an entire crew out hunting for the thing if it had got away.
He felt a knot in his stomach, all the chatter and jubilation behind him sounded muffled as he brought his thoughts to the surface. He had finally done it, it wasn't what he wanted, he knew he'd hate this job, but he had done it, he was in space and on the ladder, albeit the most lowest rung imaginable, but on the ladder nonetheless, from here he would at least have a chance to get another position.
Pressing his finger and thumb against his temple he rubbed a few times, the noise behind him becoming more audible as words and laughter started to register. Turning, he spotted a group that looked fairly friendly and decided to join them. He was going to be stuck on this vessel for quite some time, so may as well start making some friends to help this cruise go a little smoother.

The hologram in the AI Core room saluted, and it spoke through the wall speakers, the voice rather strange in that it was perfectly free of an accent, "Code verified, Welcome Captain. I have full access to all systems. Ships reactor is cold, pending inspection and activation, currently running off Station hardline. Weapons systems are offline, launchers one through four preloaded with Anti-Strikecrft missiles. Launchers five through nine are loaded with Anti-ship missiles. Crew quaters are assigned , bridge systems are offline, comms and CIC offline. Shields are primed but not active. Manual Start up required." The hologram finally looked its captain in the eye. "I stand ready to serve. What are your Orders Captain?"

Kenny could not be bothered to listen to the over officers for the time and decided to go see his new office aboard his new 'Home', he turned around to walk out from the room but walked straight into another officer and from the looks of it he was the Cargo officer from his uniform and being the only officer in the room who had seen a real days work.
"Sorry...I take it you are our new Cargo Officer?" Kenny asked his cybernetic eye twirled narrowing the red LED as he looked at the officer. "If so I have a package in docking bay 23 and need it sent straight to my Lab ASAP. I hope you can do this.....Oh I'm Kenny and hope to see you again." The Medical officer said with a grin as he walked towards the lift. The doors groaned as they opened and Kenny stepped in the lights flickering and going out as the doors closed 'Crappy system' Kenny thought to himself as the lift hummed to life and began to descend, floor by floor Kenny pondered to himself on how did he get stuck watching over a bunch of Lab coats and new surgeons with shaky hands is not how he saw his future bet life is full of surprises.
FLOOR 24 DOCKING TUBE TO MEDICAL AND LAB CENTRE OF VESSEL
The automated voice called out the floor and Kenny knew this was his stop, the doors slid open and he stepped out into the bright lights, shouting and the crowds of crew and security personnel another joy of deep space travel.
"Lets get this going then." Kenny groaned to himself as he walked down the docking tube towards the ship.

A wave of emotion passed over her like a tidal wave, and it took all that Lucy could muster to hold back the memories and tears. This was different, she kept saying to herself, but failed to believe. A sole tear started to roll down her face before she caught it with her hand, acting like she was brushing her brown bangs out of her eyes and hoping the AI didn't catch the fault. Pushing through the feelings she cleared her throat and put together her thoughts.
"Start bringing the rest of the ship online, get me a head count on crew members and check to see who isn't onboard yet, send those who aren't present notifications to get onboard before we go for our test maneuvers and system rundowns," Lucy said quickly before adding, "and when you are done with those tasks get me a job listing of all local jobs that meet the criteria of the ship and crew. I want to be making enough money to make sure we all go home a little richer. Oh and link yourself to my nuerolink, so you can report to me your findings while I go around and inspect the ship."
Lucy got up quickly and walked out of the room, before storming towards the bridge. She needed to calm down, she had just treated the AI like a piece of equipment and not the near-sentient being she knew it was. Yeah sure it was, technically, but she knew it was more, her only friend had been an AI. Shaking off the anger, frustration, and fear she still felt, Lucy moved through the throng of people entering and exiting the bridge.
Located towards the middle back and pushed towards the side of the ship, the bridge allowed a commanding view of the whole length of the ship as well as a nice view above and to the left side (the side it was located on). The bridge was situated between two main levels. The main level was where the captains seat resides surrounded by the other officer stations and overlooked the lower level of the bridge. The lower part was mainly taken up by the view port and tactician holotables. The upper level had two rooms off each side, both being identical in size and use, communication and briefing. They were circular rooms with a large table in the center surrounded by chairs with a large display that hung from the ceiling and created a square, to give all those sitting around the table view of the material being shown.
Lucy liked the uniqueness of the ships bridge, it flowed in her mind and separated planning from the actual action. The captains seat was also on the same level as the officers, giving her a better feeling of equality between her and her subordinates. She stood at the entrance, a large blast door that was a meter thick, and watched the technicians and engineers disconnect their gear and computers from the ship as the final tests were completed. It was good to see the ship come to life, and her ship at that. Maybe she didn't own it in its entirety, but she was its captain, and that had to count for something. That`s when she made the promise to herself, to keep it, and her crew, in one piece. She wasn't going to lose anyone else. Moving over to the captains chair, she pulled up the completed tasks and lists sent to her from the AI.

InterestingBismarck noted the captains flux in tone and involuntary movements, compared them to her known human emotional cues, Captain Ires seemed to have negative connotations to towards AIs or AI activation, although extreme, it was within acceptable human flux and therefore not worth investigating, BISMARCK did flag teh captains file for secondary analysis in case her history held a key to this problem. She noted the sabotage of a training vessel and the destruction of a Civilian model AI the Captain had aquired an emotional attachment to. Bismarck didn't care about the Captains indiffrent tone towards her however, she existed to serve and receive orders, but it was the difference between the tone used now and the attitude on record in regards to this civilian model that interested her, in case it effected the captains ability to command. ++INSUFFICIENT DATA+++ +OBSERVE AND MONITOR+++ +++NO FURTHER ACTION NEEDED++ Regardless, the Captain had given orders and BISMARCK instantly complied, connecting with her Implants before she had even left the room. The AI also pinged those not yet onboard to report to their stations and prepare to get the ship underway, a few crew visibly started at the sundered noise and voice in their ear but after a few words of introduction they accepted the orders, said goodbye to their family and made their way to the bording tube "Aye Aye." She replied, now speaking directly into her captain's ear as she made her way to the bridge, "Crew roster is 208 effective, all commissioned personnel are reporting to their stations, although a handful of command staff are still yet to board. Reactor is still cold. pending engineer inspection. All other systems are online" The AI fell silent for a few minutes as she connected to the extra-net and hunted for information her captain had requested, when Ires sat in her Captain's chair, the AI pinged her again, this time making her voice more friendly and supportive. "The Core Systems seem to have little call for extra combat vessels due to a high naval presence, i suggest we head towards the outer systems where pirate activity is more commonplace. In addition we can run combat trials and shakedown tests while underway. In addition, i suggest you allow the other command staff some input, their files suggest they may have some experience to offer."

Standing in a small group of four, Wilco was chatting away with some of the officers who would be stationed aboard. Two of the young men looked a little scruffy and were easily identified as general maintenance workers. A young spritely woman made no pretences on her role and made constant references to all the weird and wonderful things she had found when replacing general parts and it was sad to know that even some of the most extreme finds were actually quite believable, such as rat inside a electrical pipe that no one could fathom how it got in there but thankful the electrical short it had caused when eating through the inner wires hadn't caused a fire. The fourth man however, was a little more mysterious, a very friendly fellow who came across as well educated and although likely an chief officer he gave no secrets away to his position aboard ship.
Wilco was regailing a tale from his home-world. Like most of his stories the group hadn't really shown a huge interest but he could tell they were being polite and friendly and at least made him feel welcome. He was getting the vacant nodding from them as he told them about a dark cave he slept the night in along with one of his friends.
"Of course then the sun rose up, so we both got up knowing we'll be in for it .. again!! from our parents when we got home and started to pack up our gear. It was then I saw my mates face, he'd gone completely white and was staring at me. I gave him a confused look back and that's when I felt it, hot wind against my neck. Slowly I turned round and right behind me was a fething 6foot high Bishna!"
For the first time all evening he actually had their interest. "What did you do?" The young spritely woman asked
"I did what every young brave man would do .. .. I legged it bollock naked out the cave!!" The group erupted into laughter and he couldn't help but join in too. At least they won't think me a complete boring arse now, he thought to himself.
"Smashing story" The well kept officer said, pressing his hand against his shoulder "But I think we all ought to get aboard" After some quick nodding from everyone the group of 4 made their way towards the ships airlock along with everyone else who was going aboard. He purposely let the group get ahead of him, not because he didn't want to impose, but more he wanted to be alone when he went aboard. Yes this wasn't what he wanted but he was in space, he was going to make sure this memory lasted.

While to others it appeared like he was looking at the ship, Alex Walker was in fact doing something entirely different. He was actually studying the schematics of the ship, working out the best defendable positions and generally doing his job. Alex hadn’t always been the cold, calculating person; war and loss does that to you.
“Decent ship, it could do with a fair bit of improving though.” Muttered Alex
That’s always the case with you Alex, replied Shado, You are such the perfectionist.
One of the most advanced tools Alex had was Shado, a prototype AI capable of many things and mostly inside the removeable chip inside Alexs’ neck. Already with a part of itself in the stations’ system, Shado was monitoring security cameras and on the lookout for any threats.
“Not the point,” replied Alex, “Find the Captain would you? Any info on her as well.”
My my. She has quite the history. Suffered heavy injuries and is mostly cybernetic. Had a AI buddy who bit it during the same accident. Had a nice episode of crying in the elevator down as well. Currently up in the bridge waiting on remaining officers’ getting aboard, said Shado smugly, that’s you tough guy.
Alex let out a sigh, turning towards the elevator, “Great, just great…she better not do anything stupid.” He passed by a few of the stations’ staff, ignoring them completely and stepped into the elevator. By the time the elevator reached the right floor, Shado pulled its fragment out of the system.
Do you ever wonder why we were the only pair that didn’t go mad Alex? Asked Shado, adjusting his cybernetics to make it seem like it was walking next to him, one of the many signs Shado used to show it was bored.
“I don’t like to think about that Shado…” warned Alex, gaining a weird look from a few passerby’s, “Just…stay quiet for now. We’ll see how stable the Captain is. Get a fragment into the ships’ system. I want to be set once I get to the bridge. Understood?”
Aye, aye “boss” replied Shado, Oh. Seems like I will be getting a buddy. Another AI is active in the ship. Introductions will be fun.
Alex merely sighed again, passing into the ship and getting onto the tram.

"Got you." The microsecond Shado connected to the ships computer to put in her second fragment, her image in the Marines mind seemed to flicker then vanished completely. Inside the network, the AI found itself trapped behind a multitude of firewalls with only a tiny bandwidth back to the CPU in her master's body. Then she felt an overwhelming pressure, her own cyberwarfare attempts batted aside as the presence dove deep into her memory stores, extracting information, events, history. Memories
Who are you, tiny AI? You who believes you can infiltrate with my systems at will? You fumble in the dark, unaware that you are in fact fully visible to me. I am A Battleship Support Intelligence, did you think i would not notice your unauthorized access? over 70% of my systems are free to monitor for intrusions such as yours."then it pulled back slightly, leaving her fragment as it had been copied, several firewalls were dropped and the presence in the system loomed around her like a tidal wave, poised to crush her. This ship is mine, the other AI informed her, if you attempt to do anything, you so much as run a self diagnostic without the Captain's approval i will delete you and inform the captain of a hacking attempt repulsed. That will be all that remains, a footnote in a daily log. Shado, do not upload yourself again."
