FLORA (This mentions most types of plants native to Rudaur. Plenty of others exist though, these are just the most common)
Evergreens: catch-all term for evergreen flora
Darkpines: Evergreen pines with very dark green needles.
Warwood: A very thick-trunked tree that grows in Havermere. Used in the making of infantry spikes.
Watcher Pine: A pine tree with a dark grey trunk and mossy-green needles indigenous to the western coast north of Celedorn.
Picket Pine: An evergreen tree that grows much shorter than the rest, and tend to grow in copses.
Witherwillow: A wetland tree famous for hanging with huge, dripping beards of moss.
Knifeleaf: Thin, sharp leaves hang down from these trees, native to the deep southern reaches of Ridemark and Celedorne.
Fogfern: Native to Marchfold.
Brooding Pine: A pine with large, heavy needles that give it it’s charichtaristic droop. Native to northern Ridemark and Celedorn, and southern Highmark and Marchfold.
Hunter Pine: The think boughs of grey-green hunter pines have provided shelter from the elements for many poachers throughout the ages, giving it it’s name. It is found throughout Rudaur, though in the Empire, more heavily north of Ridemark and Highmark, and not at all in Kairinthe. It produces a very sweet sap that many peasents use as sweetener.
Sequoys: Huge, towering trees taller than castle keeps native to Kairinthe, the Clerical States, southern Ridemark and southern Celedorne. They grow in massive forests.
Blackroot Trees: These pale-trunked pines grow in the darkest of forest, native to Lowmark and Havermere.
Springgensap: Laden with bitter sap and needles prone to dripping, native to Westmark and Havermere

Emperor Sequoys: Trees of truly ridiculous sizes that grow in forests in the south of Marchfold, all of Ridemark and all of Celedorne.
FLOWERS
- Winterreisse: Known by most simply as “White Roses” they are a symbol of purity and faith throughout the Empire. Native all over Rudaur, but predominantly in Alinor and Avenon, where vast fields of them can be found. They are thought to be holy to Ortha, as they remain bloomed through winter. They have pure-white petals and stamens.
- Firetongue: orange, long-petaled flowers native to Lowmark and parts of the Northland.
- Snowblooms: Native to Havermere, Lowmark, Blackmark, Westmark and the Northlands, Snowblooms are deep blue-black in color and bloom in the winter, on trees.
- Queensflower: A flower with very light green, almost yellow petals.
- Goldenpetal: Known as the Emperor’s flower, the bright yellow petals bear striking resemblance to the color of the Rudair Eagle.
- Knight’s Lance: A flower with beautiful petals of royal purple, with a stem covered in long, thin thorns that contain a poison known as Knightsleep, which can, in low doses, induce sleep, and in high doses, induce seizures and death. They are said to be a flower ‘like a true knight’ beautiful and chivalrous, but deadly.
- Lack-Alacks: Deep purple flowers with star-shaped petals from Seamark and lower Westmark
- Dukesword: A silver-white petaled flower that grows up to two feet tall and stands regal
Poppies: Native mostly to Havermere, used for Poppy syrup.
- Kingstongue: Small, bright red-toned, blunt-petaled flowers.
- Scepter: golden-stemmed and golden-petaled.
- Stoneflower: A dull little flower native to Celedorne
- Greypetal: Grey-petals are native onlyto Greymark, and give it it’s name.
- Mourning Bloom: A completely black flower, said to grow on the places where people died in the wilderness. Common at funerals, along with Winterreisse.
- Minstrel’s Dance, Ladylove, Bladebloom, Emperor’s Heart, Lady’s Kiss
- Bloodbloom: White flowers patterned irregularly with red that looks to be a bloodied handkerchief.
- Saw Grass: the abrasive, sharp leaves can cut a man’s flesh and serve to sting and irritate.
- Greyberries: Foul-tasting but nourishing.
- Maiden’s Hair: Stems with thin, furry golden strands, like hair.
- Mugwort: Rather ugly, but useful in treating cuts.
- Wormwood: Tincture of wormwood is used as a cure for constipation and stomach aliments
- Pennyroyal: A good flea repellant, and very fragrant. When combined with Wormwood, it is used as an abortificant by peasantry, though many learned monks doubt its effectiveness.
- Tansy: Insect repellant
- Marigold: A spice, and very frequently used in cooking, can also make insect stings feel less painful
- Blue Iris: Sweet-smelling, used in both healing gums and making ink, and woven together to form patterned thatch. Also used as rushes and as spot remover. A favorite, and Saint Gloria’s flower.
- Periwinkle: Used in making wreaths and garlands
- Violets: Used to make aromatic baths
- Daisies: Used often to liven up rushes, and very bright
- Primroses: Used to make Primrose Wine, when crushed, can ease pain and avoid blemishes, eaten to ease muscle fatigue
- Oxeneye: Huge daisy
- Gillyflower: Used in cooking, has a bitter, clove-like taste, can be pink, crimson or white
- Peony: Used in cooking to ‘warm the tongue’ Drunk with hot wine and ale to cure nightmare

FAUNA
- Small Garrons are used to transport light cargoes and are sure-footed in mountains.
- Wealthy knights ride horses called heavy Destriers. Other knights ride Coursers, similar to Destreirs.
- Cows are kept by peasants, mostly for milk. Beef is rare, and according to Orthian tradition, only bulls (male cows) should be eaten, as the females produce valuable milk and cheese. Veal is rarer still.
- Sheep are shorn for their wool and slaughtered for their meat
- Pigs are delicious and plenty, their meat gracing every home from a rude lean-to to the Imperial Palace. Scabbarrite Orthians believe that pigs are unclean, and some call Rudair “Pig-eaters” condescendingly. Swine are known to eat the dead, and trash, but they are still tastey, according to most Rudair.
- Goats are sacrificial animals, but also eaten
- Water Buffallo can be found in southern Ridemark
- Some Plainsmen in Ridemark eat horse, and drink fermented mare’s milk as a rather foul alchoholic substance

• Krakens are massive cephalopods that live in the cold waters of the north and are said to be able to pull down ships.

• Some knights use wolfhounds, if elkhounds can’t be found.
• Sheepdogs keep sheep in line.
• Seaserpents live in the southern waters, and can grow to immense sizes, able to sink small ships.
• The Redessan Coursers are smaller than proper warhorses and cannot bear the weight of men in heavy armor, but they have incredible stamina. They are all slim and swift with long necks and narrow heads and their coats are black, copper, grey or fire-red.

• Emperor crabs are delicious, but they can snip a man’s entire hand clean off.

• Warwolves are as large as horses, and some sea-goers bring them back to rudaur for menageries. They are seen as the animals of Saint Leonard.
• Wooly Rhinos are indigenous to Eryn
• Snow bears are said to live on the floating ice-plains of the far northern oceans
• Warwolves upset horses, and dogs are so frightened by them that they refuse to sleep eat or urinate in the same space. They have better tracking noses than any dog and those few that have been tamed are purported to understand detailed and complicated commands.
• Warwolves are proportionally larger headed and longer legged compared to regular wolves, and their snout and jaws are thicker and more primal and brutal-looking. They have massive fangs that jut from their lower jaws and can tear a horse in half in less than a second. Even the heaviest chainmail can be crushed and broken in their jaws, and they have been known to liquidate flesh and bone (Some say even stone) with their bite.

• Vast herds of elk roam Eryn.
• It's said that Warwolves once roamed central and southern Rudaur in the days of Variel, in packs of hundreds, fearing nothing and devouring entire townships before Variel declared war on them and purged their entire species from Rudaur down to the last pup.

• Herons can be found wherever there is a ready supply of water on the western coast.
• Using an eagle for hawking is very rare, though Emperor Godfrey possesses a Rudair Eagle
• Krakens are massive cephalopods that live in the cold waters of the north and are said to be able to pull down ships.
• Wild goats can be found in the mountains
• Some knights use wolfhounds, if elkhounds can’t be found.
• Sheepdogs keep sheep in line.
• Seaserpents live in the southern waters, and can grow to immense sizes, able to sink small ships.
• The Redessan Coursers are smaller than proper warhorses and cannot bear the weight of men in heavy armor, but they have incredible stamina. They are all slim and swift with long necks and narrow heads and their coats are black, copper, grey or fire-red.
• Rounceys are small horses.
• Lions reside in Redessa, Kairinthe and the plains of the Ridemark
• Emperor crabs are delicious, but they can snip a man’s entire hand clean off.
• River pike are both a danger and a food.

• Morgen-Fish are named for being able to swell up and look like the ball of a Morgenstarn (Morningstar)
• Seawolves, black whales, Kingsharks and Anvil-sharks are all large predators common in the northern waters of the Baquen Bay.
• Poisonous vipers can be found in southern Ridemark and all of Redessa and the southern states
• Terns, sandpipers, frogs, crickets, and foxes can be found in any wetland, andcommonly in Marchfold

• Warwolves are as large as horses, and some sea-goers bring them back to rudaur for menageries. They are seen as the animals of Saint Leonard.
• Wooly Rhinos are indigenous to Eryn
• Snow bears are said to live on the floating ice-plains of the far northern oceans
• Warwolves upset horses, and dogs are so frightened by them that they refuse to sleep eat or urinate in the same space. They have better tracking noses than any dog and those few that have been tamed are purported to understand detailed and complicated commands.
• Warwolves are proportionally larger headed and longer legged compared to regular wolves, and their snout and jaws are thicker and more primal and brutal-looking. They have massive fangs that jut from their lower jaws and can tear a horse in half in less than a second. Even the heaviest chainmail can be crushed and broken in their jaws, and they have been known to liquidate flesh and bone (Some say even stone) with their bite.
• The northmen ride black-furred shaggy horses

• It's said that Warwolves once roamed central and southern Rudaur in the days of Variel, in packs of hundreds, fearing nothing and devouring entire townships before Variel declared war on them and purged their entire species from Rudaur down to the last pup.

• There are whales in the waters off of Havermere in the Basqen Bay
• Snowbears can stand some six yarns tall when rearing.
• A Rashaki war elephant can pluck an armored knight from a saddle with his trunk and throw him some thirty yarns
