The shadow hound pack was savage, but would lose heart eventually as it lost members, no prey was worth the pack losing too many, else it would not survive against the other dangers She who walks with Thunder knew were out there somewhere in the dark. when the hounds had attacked she had been ready, health paranoia being a positive survival straight in these lands sending a shot early on in the fight at some moving beast beyond the treeline, then her keen senses allowing her to dodge the beast lunging at her back, and keeping alert for any follow up attack, she got to work reloading. "Shadow Hound are armored on their backs."she called, as she finally readied the weapon , "slit the throat or stab the flank." The madman was in trouble so She who walks with Thunder adjusted her aim to the hound that was circling around to his back, her world narrowed to a single point, its black heart, the line through the air the bullet would take and the slow, echoing sound of her own heartbeat.
She squeezed the trigger.

she Who Walks With Thunders shot hit its mark, downing another shadow hound, making Wolves life a bit easier. Unfortunately her decision, like every decision, brought consequences. Her back turned, that left only Garth and Iulius to see as two more Shadow hounds jumped out, near the already struggling Sorelia. Both moved, but their combines hunger and sprints into their defensive positions, along with a Hound blocking their way, made them unable to get to Sorelia as another wolf chomped down on her last free arm as she struggled to bring her weapon around. Her scream eachoed as the Shadow Hounds teeth finally got through her leather, and cut through her flesh like razor knives. Her flesh getting torn to shreds, bone meeting teeth as the beast relentlessly tore into her. And then the new Hound noticed she was vulnerable. In too much pain and too distracted, she didn't even realize the new wolf had let go of her arm, seeing a much chewier target in her neck, where neither her helm nor torso fully protected. Her eyes went wide, surprised, funnily enough, more then in pain, as the Shadows teeth sunk into her neck. Who could say what her last thought was, but she went down fast, if not messily. Iulius and Garth looked on, the blood of the Shadow hound who had foolishly got in their way fresh on their blades, but too late to save Sorelia, and as another Shadow hound jumped out the bushes with a growl, they were now faced with three opponents, Sorelias blood fresh on the lips of two. They stood their ground, ready, a comrade down, but still strength and life left in their own bodies. The Hounds, however, were now weary. Split. But they could not leave their prey, would not leave Sorelias body. Perhaps their own hunger was to much to bear. They would fight it seemed, for it seemed they did not have the luxury of not winning this fight aswell. *SORELIA DEAD, shame but thats how this game goes. Readiness order: 1) Garth, Iulius, Thunder, Wolf and his Shadow Hound. 2) Milo and his Shadow Hound **the 3 Shadow Hounds are defending, thus already prepared, but waiting for others to act.

Iulius considered the options before them, they could allow the beasts to take Sorelia's body, thus they would regroup and replenish their numbers before coming back to fight them another day, however they would also be able to regroup, and recover from their injuries. Or they could fight on, and bleed each other dry. He glanced from the beasts before him to Garth mere feet to his side, his gaze settled upon the tattered corpse of Sorelia, no, he decided after a brief moment's thought, Sorelia was a comrade, no matter how briefly they had stood together, and he would not allow a comrade's body to be torn apart by damnable wolves. "For the Legion!" He roared, leaping forwards, the nearest of the beasts leapt forwards to defend their kill, with a deft swing he slashed in across the gut, practically disemboweling the creature, its dark ichor splattering across the ground. It's packmates charged forwards, with a swing of an armored gauntlet he bashed the first of the bastards aside, knocking it to the ground, but the second smashed into him, clamping its jaws around his sword wielding arm. Its teeth did little damage to the full iron of his gauntlets however, and he slammed his armored fist into its face, knocking it off him. Off balance, and with Shadow Hounds on either side of him Iulius gripped his scimitar, ready to die to defend his slain comrade.

while Iulius defended himself from the Larger group, Wolf was dealing with his own problem. Deciding perhaps smartly that things needed to end quickly, Wolf sidestepped backwards, allowing himself more room, as the Shadow hound pounced at the opening, he already had one of his pistols pulled, placing a shot through its neck, the Beast let out a yelp and slammed into him , dead but nearly knocking him over. “damn fuck” he said as he popped a second round into its skull. Despite being near the downed Milo, Wolf simply put his Triple Barreled Pistol back into his belt and went to the nearest tree and started to climb. Once up in the tree, he drew out his bow and surveyed the battlefield. Unable to find any more enemies approaching the clearing, he shrugged and took a shot at the one on milo, but it bounced off the plate on its back. Jumping back in surprise, the Shadow Hound was now off of milo, who quickly got up, drawing his short sword, as his other was still in a corpse, and pulling his injured arm close to him, his leather protection pierced but keeping his arm from any tough damage, although it was starting to give out. The Shadow Hound, however, simply turned and fled around Milo, it took a moment but both Milo and Wolf could tell it was making a curve towards Garth and Iulius, intent on helping keep the prey they already had instead of gaining any more it seemed. Quick, and with the last two distracting Iulius and Garth, Milos Hound instead clamped onto Sorelias body, and started dragging it into towards the under growth, while its comrades Pulled back and attempted to keep the party at bay. Readiness order: 1) Garth, Thunder, and Milo **the 2 Shadow Hounds are defending, thus already prepared, but waiting for others to act. ***the 3rd Shadow Hound is too focused to defend, but is moving at a surprisingly quick speed, if they get to the underbrush they will most likely get away.

"No, you're not leaving with that body!" Milo shouted, "We can't let them get used to human, they'll just keep after it!" With that Milo took after the wolf, expecting one of the defenders to react. "Thunder if you could, stop that one with Sorelia's body.".
Milo readied his sword with his good arm, "Come on Girth, let's kill these two beasts and be done with it.". Milo's shortsword was readied for a slash, hopefully he would at least hit the beast in the side and knock some wind out of it so another member of the party could finish it. However, the need to prevent the creatures from taking the corpse and potentially any supplies with it seemed to be a necessary priority.

When Milo's attack grabbed the attention of one beast Iulius took his opening, with a wide sweep of his blade he cut the front legs of the beast out from under it. The creature yelped in pain as Iulius kicked it on to it's side, he raised his scimitar past his shoulder and swung downwards, slashing across the animal's throat, cutting short it's howls and silencing it forever.

The Carbine was to her shoulder, and as the other's charged in to recover the corpse, She took a more stable kneeling position, the thunder spoke one more, its rage directed at the blood soaked maw of the hound dragging the corpse. She who walks with Thunder regretted the death, but didn't waste time or energy on more, hindsight was worth nothing to the dead, although she did wish she had at least asked the girls clan before the Dark had claimed her. She wished she had known her name. The strange noises of the common tongue was no good for expressing who she had been so as she reloaded She who walks with Thunder decided to honor her with a proper name. "Rest well, She who Fought for Hope." she whispered in her own tongue, "May the Shadows never find your footsteps in the beyond." The Hammer cocked back with a snap and weapon ready, she took aim "Forgive me for my failure."

Both Milo and Iulius landed clean blows upon their targets, ending them quickly. It was only a moment later that a loud BOOM was heard, and then silence filled the clearing. She Who Walks With Thunders shot had struck true.
Everything was silent, the woods itself barely stirring, adrenalin slowly fading.
Blood, black and red, covered the ground and the survivors, corpses littered everywhere. Already the smell seemed potent, raw and rotting, unbearable even.
The moon now just barely out, everything was cast in a ominous light, as the stillness of their comrades body seemed unnatural after all the action.
And then their stomachs growled, and the strain of battle and a long days march set in.
despite the darkness and the grueling scene before them, it seemed it was time to rest, as the last light of day fled, an ill omen upon the battles end.

Iulius stood over the dead beast, his scimitar still buried in its throat up to its spine, his breathing was shallow and ragged, he was starting to show his age. It took several minutes before the fire in his eyes died down, the blood rage slowly receding. He yanked the blade from the beast before wiping its blood from the blade, his voice was sharp and clear as he spoke, "She Who Walks With Thunder, skin the beasts, Wolf get out of the tree and help her." He sheathed his blade before continuing, "Milo, see to Sorelia. Garth, campfire."
"And what are you going to do?" Thunder demanded. Iulius turned on his heel to face the barbarian woman, "A comrade of mine has fallen in battle, I will not allow scavengers to defile her body further, I'm going to prepare her a pyre." He paused for a moment, "And I'll be needing your hatchet, if you would be so kind?" He said, walking up to her.

"A pyre would be nice," Milo said through labored breathing, "light and a proper dedication for a shield-sister's memorial. Two birds, one stone.". Milo grimaced at the sight of their once comrade, he had seen fighting and death at the hands of other men but all of that seemed tame compared to what these beasts had done to Sorelia. With a grunt he squatted down and hooked his arms under the corpse's shoulders and began to drag the body towards the center of the clearing, mindful of the surrounding forest and the things within that might want more than just the body he was dragging.
He laid the body back down as gently as he could, he was tired and hurt and of course it wasn't like Sorelia would be complaining much about how she was being handled. With a soft thump her head hit the ground, Milo recoiled a bit, the sound was rather different with the visual of Sorelia's neck spilling small strands of muscles from the gaping wound. It made him a little sick.
"Well I am uh," Milo said apologetically, "quite sorry I have to do this." he began searching the pockets of their deceased comrade for any items of use or worth. "I promise not to take anything too personal, but I hope you packed some healing items."
Milo looked up from the search, "Any of you have an idea of how many more nights we'll be out here?"
