I'll join in as something in Briton, although my knowledge of the period is slightly better than my knowledge of dentistry. Basically, the biggest tribes in Britain are the Caledones, a Pictish tribe in Scotland, and the Brigantes and the Iceni, two Celtic tribes in Yorkshire and Norfolk respectively. The Celts are great metallurgists, have a well-developed society ruled by a warrior nobility, and occasionally get naked and go head-hunting. Also Boudica and generally better gender equality than most of the "civilised" world. The Picts are similar, but with fewer large towns and fortresses and a greater propensity to paint themselves blue and run naked and screaming into battle.

Well, we aren't for want of variety. Getting a bit spread out though. Yeah, this is my worry as well. Anybody fancy Carthage, Macedon or the Seleucids? I mean two out of three of those choices come with WAR ELEPHANTS, ladies and gentlemen.

I mean to be honest I don't really like the idea of starting right next to each other...it tends to cause player headaches.
Starting a bit more spread out I think might work out better because it will give players the chance to understand both the GM and how period things work before trying to fuck other players over.
Though to be fair...it's probable that a lot of the NPCs will be powerful too.

And that's true, it will help players get the hang of things, although major factions like Carthage and the Seleucids would be good to have as PCs.

Well, if you are planning to take proto-Saxons you are going to start right next to me i belive. I'm too out of loop with how things work at this era so probably best if i don't take control over major faction.

I believe there are one or two tribes between the Saxons and Cherusci so it's not like we start off on each others border.
But I think it would be nice to split the player base up between north and south europe.

I'm afraid I'm going to have to shelve this one for now - between university applications, getting a job and the metric fuckton of coursework being dumped on me at the moment, I doubt I'm going to be able to find the time for this without compromising on RL. But fear not! For I've created too many resources for this already to abandon it. One day chums, one day.

Perhaps find a substitute GM and simply play in it with the rest?

I have a similar project I've done some ground work for, after Shadowrun is over I could run that.
