Alright, I've decided to start this game tomorrow, Korsea and the Spymaster can sidle in later, although I might have any rumors picked up by the spymaster's network be sent to the Seneschal, at last for a while.
I'll be adding in several new NPC sheets to the OP before the game starts for you all to read and get familiar with.
For now, let me outline how this game will work in a bit more detail than i have.
The Imperial Palace
this is where most of the game will take place and it consists of several sections, divided into public and Imperial access only.
Public sections:
(Public sections are the most traveled and hundreds of people often hurry through these areas.)
Courtyard
Stables and mustering Yard
Outer Corridors
Guest Quarters
Church of Sun and Sky
Church Gardens
Guard Barracks
Throne Room
Kitchen
Castle Smithy
Servants Quarters
Under croft (servants corridors and hidden stairways)
Imperial Access only
The Princess' home and the heart of the Empire, only place guards, staff and Inner circle are allowed to wander freely, all others must have permission from the Guard Captain, Seneschal, of the Princess herself
Royal Chambers (includes Princess' bathroom, bedroom and study)
War Room
Council Chambers
Silver Knight Barracks
Imperial Solar, (A Tall Tower that allows those at the top to look out across the central dominance.)
Inner Circle Personal Quarters, (player owned studies and bedchambers)
Dining Hall
Inner Corridors
Palace Gardens
Imperial Treasury
Dungeons
Gallery of Kings, (a trophy room/ art gallery. contains artifacts and depictions of Athlehere ancestors)
Palace Walls
The Month of Grief.
This is the time-frame of 30 days where the succession is at most peril, for the princess may be called Empress and have most of the authority the throne has at its command, she is not truly monarch until she is crowned.
in addition, there are a number of events the place must host as tradition decrees, these events are spaced a week apart and preparations must be made beforehand to ensure their success and her grace's safety.
during the days between events, players may help train the princess and help her prepare for each.
The Passing of His Grace.
On the fifth of the month, The Funeral of Emperor Charles Athlehere will take place, it consists of two parts, the public farewell, where all in the empire may pay their respects and the Funeral itself, where his Grace is committed to the funeral pyre.
The princess must be present for both sections, and they will take all day. Her Grace must be visible and approachable by any who wish it for the public farewell. The Public farewell takes place in the Throneroom.
For the Funeral, His Grace is moved to the Church Gardens, crowds may be kept back, but any who wish to stay for the lighting of the pyre must be allowed to do so in a location where they can witness it.
The Midsummer Ball.
an annual event, takes place on the twelfth, where the mobility and visiting dignitaries mingle, discuss politics and make arrangements for the rest of the year. Her the Princess must mingle and stretch her political muscles, get a feel on what her nobility plan and think while working to strengthen bonds with allies and foreign powers.
Starts in the evening and lasts most of the night, and is held in the throne room, dining hall and palace gardens. The princess does not have to attend, but her absence would be noted, neither does she have to remain for the duration, she may at a late enough hour withdraw without causing offence.
The Grand Tourney
A popular event, especially for the nobility, for it allows them to settle grudges honorably, and for aspiring knights to earn the favor of a noble house. The Silver Knights can scout for potential recruits. Hosted in the Gardens, Stables, and Mustering Yard. The public is allowed to attend, and the princess must at least put in an appearance, several knights may wish to join the imperial House as officers and she must be there to judge their worth and present prizes to event winners.
Hosted on the 19th, Takes all day.
The Coronation
The main Event, takes place on the 30th, once more the public areas of the palace are opened to all, the Princess must spend the morning in the church, the afternoon in the gardens and the evening in the Solar in the east tower. She may have one guard with her at all times, but otherwise must be left alone for prayer and quiet contemplation. She will be crowned at Midnight
NOTE: Disturbances at any of these events might not, depending on the severity, effect what public opinion of her grace will be, however, it is best if any threats are dealt with or arrests take place out of public eye, although of course that might not always be possible. far better to stop an assassin or unmask a plot well in advance of an occasion it could cause embarrassment to her grace.
Players and The Princess.
When not dealing with major events or minor ones such as passing judgement or giving audiences, the princess is available for players to train or interact with. The more a Player interacts with her, the more she is likely to trust them and the better trained she is the better she can handle herself.
the Princess's proficiency in any aspect will be indicated in the OOC thread as levels
The Guard Captain may train her in self defense
The Court Mage can teach her to recognize attempts to magically influence her
The Spymaster can teach her to see lies or attempts to mislead
The Game Warden can teach her to be more alert to changes around her and react quicker
The Seneschal can help her with her confidence and keeping up appearances
The Inquisitor can help her keep her mind sharp and stress low.
of course she can only train with one person at a time, and she will most likely not perform two training sessions in one day unless she trusts the character's judgment.
any number of PCs can simply converse with her at any time she is free, and can be used to boost trust.
How to play
Everything will be done narrative in the form of IC posts and i will post an end of day event once i feel enough has been done that day although anything relating to a player's secondary, such as the Captain's Silver knights, of the spymaster's network is done via PM whenever something is triggered or a player makes a change.
for example.
the spymaster's network will operate behind the scenes, if the Spymaster wants his agents to focus on a particular target, he pms me with orders written IC for an agent and if his network picks up on a rumor or possible threat or anything of interest, i will PM him. the Seneschal's staff operate in the same way.
The guard captain may change the patrols or adjust the Princess's protection detail at any time, this can be done IC or via PM.
If the Court Mage senses something amiss, i will PM.
Basically if something happens that requires only a single players input, i will PM the situation to the player in question and its up to them what they do with it, but remember, co-operation is key.
threats and plots will be handled in the background in accordance to a check list of things i will run each one through and i will compare player actions to whats happening behind the scenes and allow information and rumors or perhaps even evidence to fall into you laps as a reward for due diligence.
in other words, i have a series of requirements each plot has to achieve before they can progress, so if an assassin jumps out of the wardrobe it is because he has passed the requirements to get there, not that i put him there via GM bullshit. if you all play your cards right, it might even be like nothing's happening at all, not every person plotting of them has the money, intelligence or luck to perform at the highest quality, so the more hastily planned and poorly financed an attempt is, the more likely you will be given a warning or evidence
any questions?
