Long story short, if you're not on Skype you might not know, but I live in Nepal, a country to the north of India that's recently come out of a communist-led rebellion (rebel victory) earthquake, economic recession and a ruling of certain portion of the country by drug lords. Members of the borthern indian plains people Mhadesis, who are demanding to be given sole control over the economic routes the country sustains itself on have, when their demands are refused, targeted those native to the hills (Khas, or Ghurka'li, the ethnicity I belong to) and in response the Khas have organized ethnic militias and the predominantly Khas army has been deployed to the effected regions. Killings by way of axes, spears, burning alive and beheadings are becoming increasingly common in the regions, where part of my family lives. Retaliation by the Khas has included an all our battle in teh streets of a city not far from where I live, where a khas militia attacked a Mhadesi led riot, resulting in hundreds of deaths and supposedly limbs, gore and severed heads in the streets. Extermination of both ethnicity has now been threatened by preeminent members of both , each targeting the other ethnic group.
I've mentioned some of this to the skype group and linked a few news articles but the western media really isn't reporting on this at all, sadly. We have gotten on Conflict Alert and Ethnicide Watch however. I thought everyone might like to know.
I'll keep you guys posted, and add some images. Feel free to ask questions.
The following are photos of the recent events in nepal
Riots in the southern Terai region, which has the most instability, currently.
Members of the marxist governmental paramilitary Armed Police
Still from footage of a riot in Biratnagar
Nepal Military forces have been deployed to Biratnagar, to keep order. There have been several dozen deaths in firefights over the past few days.
More riots. The Workers Party emblems from the Revolution can be seen on some of the flags. The communist government's political paramilitary wing, known as the Armed Police Force (APF) has been charged with maintaining order in the capital.
The most recent image, during the aforesaid ethnic skirmishing
