I'm interested to know what kind of books people are into. I've been talking to a lot of my friends and family about books when trying to get people to proof read the books I'm writing (no, this is not an attempt to advertise my writings)
What I found is that the majority of people I speak to tend not to like Future Science Fiction but lean mostly to modern fiction, historical and fantasy. Only two people in my family like Science Fiction and one of my friends. So I thought for those interested in talking about it, I'd like you to maybe detail what genre's you like and maybe include which in your opinion is a good example of them. And maybe vote above as well
Well, as you may have gathered, I'm a future Sci-fi buff. I'm not a fan of historical books unless they are non-fiction so have no place in this discussion as it's only Fiction I'm wanting to talk about. Modern fiction I would be willing to read but would be hard pushed to name any that I would say are a good example as I just haven't read enough of that genre, the same to be said of Fantasy books. I've often wanted to read Lord of the Rings but having seen the films my drive to do so has plummeted.
So yes, Sci-fi is for me. Of all the books I've read of that genre only two seem leap out to me (neither of which are 40K ones surprisingly)
Saga of the Severn suns pips the second favourite just because of the sheer scale of it. 7 books long and detailing numerous storylines and a writing style I've tried to emulate in my own works. Although towards the middle of the book when they start introducing some elements you just can't look at without thinking "wtf?!" The story still has you hooked enough to want to keep reading. The WTF element is something that to me just seems stupid not because of the way it is introduced but the what it is, they could have changed it a little and made it more realistic in my opinion but still is a good book.
So peeps, what Genre or Genre's do you read the most. Please only vote for a combination of books if you read one almost as much as the others
