It's ironic, I'm the admin of a site based around fictional writing but I barely read novels any more. Please recommend any good standalone novels or book series! Sci-fi, fantasy, modern, anything you lot think I'll like. Thank you.

Horus Heresy
Anything by Brandon Sanderson, I particularly like his Way of kings and reckoners series.
Lightbringer Trilogy by Brent Weeks
Just started Malice by John Gwynne, its really good so far.

I know this is late to the party, but for an interesting read on some older history I would suggest "License to Spy" by John Fahey or "Up Front" by Bill Mauldin. Personal stories about being a Cold War era "spy" and an illustrator for a military paper during WW2.

I haven't done much reading myself but from what I have read I suggest "The Forever War" and "The Old Man's War" both are Sci fi novels that use their settings to speak about the nature of warfare and how the difference between being a soldier on tour in a faraway country and coming home are often like stepping onto different planets.
Quite good reads.
EDIT: The author of "The Forever War" is named is Joe Haldeman. The author of "The Old Man's War" is Joe Scalzi.
