This takes place in the earth seed portion of the Senet Alliance held space. I think terms are pretty well defined or at least guessable. I hope you enjoy. I appreciate any comments.

“Here grand-sent. Listen to this.” Wallon’s good friend Patalonk was excited about the next new thing, as always. He held up a tablet and played an advertisement.
“Webex is pleased to announce a special hiring program to join our dynamic company in it’s Webex Golden Sail project. This recruitment is for experienced sents who are willing to be trained in up-to-the-mini technology. Webex values sents who have worked in all fields because you have proven work ethics and real life Div experiences. This is a full ride recruitment including earned points toward project augmentation. This will be a limited and very popular recruitment. Do not delay signaling interest using the connections below.”
Wallon sighed, “Bet there’s a credit in, Patalonk.”
“Nope. Put your ping up and they send you pre-application test. It’s as if they stole the Red Guard version. Beauty roaches will get hungry in two minis and go hunt elsewhere. This is no play.”
“Look up Webex?”
“A little. I thought we’d use your holo. It’s a big site. Two heads better then one.”
“I’ve got two already and one of yours is worthless.”
They laughed together but Wallot got up from his tea and sunlight. He knew the Webex from the newsfeeds. It was certainly worth investigating.
------------------
Wallon’s holo read software was struggling with the complexities of the Webex site. He thought about hiring a reading service as he got up and stretched. Patalonk left before first dark, happy enough to request the test. He seemed interested but not excited. The traffic with this one would edit anyone who was not passionate about the project and the company. After readjusting his chair Wallot sat down again and called up his favorite reading service. Maybe n4hall was on duty.
“This is what I hire, Sent Max. I see well enough to find myself within a location but have difficulty navigating passages, halls, and complex rooms. All this is in my file. Assist me or I will go up the chain of command. I am wasting credits right now.”
“Sent Wallot. A new hire. Service positions are not for everyone. Webex? They are a solid company. Where do you want to start?” She even credited the time that had been wasted.
Just before dawn Wallot chipped his pre-application. He felt giddy for the first time in a very long, long time. Next he would have to secure study and employment records. And references. The deciding factor was in Webex’s company family: Bend-Afar Plas Motions. An augmentation firm. A quick check and there nestled in a select set of products was bghan eyes. His eyes. The eyes he had wanted his whole life.
Wallot lit a circle light in the Sol Mother temple on his way to work.
------------------
Patalonk was sending an annoying stream of text messages. He was furtively sliding into a back room to fill out the pre-application. His species went sideways when they were under stress.
Wallot finally sent <Sent Patalonk I must see to my job and not this worrisome text. Save your worries for after shift and keep your job.>
Cutting the thread had felt like a betrayal but it was necessary. Unfortunately it was good in that when Patalonk was caught there was no record of their conversations.
“Now I have to get this job, Wallot.”
“Oh great male of renown, one of your fem worshippers will take you in and smooth your frizzy hair. Friend, you are not earning any job in your present state. Desperation in your species is a negative trait. Relieve the stress.”
“Good idea. Let’s go to UJdom’s.”
“Not me. I have a checklist to run down. And a Sol light to tend. They do eyes, Patalonk. My eyes.”
“Congratulations, Wallot. A dream soon to be made real.”
“Me against a million others.”
“You going to put credits on anything?”
“I checked, it is the Red Guard pre-test. They read sent’s souls with those. Up is the only way.”
“Well I will use your example to my benefit.”
------------------
<A box message has arrived.>
Wallot stared at the holo deck at his job trying imagine what supplier would send a whole box just to update orders. Then it hit him and he sat stunned in body but not mind. He needed out of the office and to a public holo. He would not make Patalonk’s error.
Offering to buy treats was the perfect ruse. It made him nervous but it was simple. He filled the order form and went to pick it up.
<Webex is pleased to invite you to a formal interview in Starstair City. [Date] [Time]. Ping if you will NOT be attending.>
Wallot felt like he was flying the treats back to the office. He had provided additional records including gene scans and his sight evaluations. They considered his disability to be workable with their program.
Eyes. He was going to get his eyes.
------------------
“I am going to see a sight specialist in Starstair. This I paid to play. My office does not doubt my ethic. It is uncomfortable.” Wallot really was not a sent for plays, let alone ones that involved credits.
Patalonk sighed, “But necessary. I’m not much for transport travel at my age anyway. You have sol shine in your eyes already. I will reinforce your play without fuss.”
“I am grateful, Patalonk. It is a new adventure to add to my old ones. For now I sit and sip tea and watch the pageantry.”
“And I moan my aching feet and the new job that gave them.”
------------------
The ride into Starstair City was a long one. Wallot went full turn early because of the annual agriculture festival. Many came from off planet and were tourists outside of the business. He felt nostalgic for his time farming, for all the technology the best business was farming the dirt and its denizens. He wondered if there was a system version of the worms he fed and traded so long ago.
“Sent Wallot. Limited time. This is to be a full ride company position. Your contract will have outs but they will be difficult with the void distance to the project site.”
“I am a simple sent. Limited by my sight. My loyalty to Webex will be without bounds to finally see and be using my eyes to good benefit. I have no difficulty with an oath, I would have given it willingly to the Red Guard but was denied it.”
“What we offer is a second to the food service business. You would learn all the positions in keeping with Webex philosophy of bottom up advancement. The majority of your time would be managing orders with a heavy emphasis on transportation issues. There is much to learn, Sent Wallot. This is a serious choice.”
“Done and given. I have a few matters to tie up but I can do them here in Starstair. I even know who to sell my property to.”
“Welcome to Webex, Sent Wallot.” She gave specific locations, temporary housing and other details.
Eyes!
