Just a heads up guys, from late Thursday to the following Wednesday I will probably not be able to post much as I'm doing birthday shenanigans. I'll probs still pop online or in discord a few times a day but I won't be able to do a lot other than answer questions here and there.

For the record, I know that that isn't actual clone commando suit, but it looks nice and close enough.

For the record, I know that that isn't actual clone commando suit, but it looks nice and close enough. Anyone could be forgiven for making the mistake tbh. When I first saw those old republic troopers in the SWTOR cinematics years ago I had to do a double take because I couldn't figure out why there were clones fighting a thousand years before they were around in the canon. Turns out they just decided to make the old republic troops look really close to clone troopers for some reason? I was never clear on the reason for that design choice. They made the Sith droids look like Droidekas in those cinematics too, lol. Way to confuse the hell out of everyone.
EDIT: After looking for some answers, the general thinking seems to be that the Mandalorians were the inspiration for both because apparently in 5,000 years nobody else in the galaxy could make good armor or something

Well that's just lazy. No other scifi setting has done something as lazy as using one set of armor and then saying that a lot of other people use that same armor style because it looks like armor belonging to a highly respected martial force.

Yeah and they definitely wouldn't make their droids and ships look similar to the kinds seen in major motion pictures in order to cash in on the nostalgia of the masses. Never happened, not even once!

Like, I could understand everything being roughly similar looking if old republic and clone wars eras were somewhat close with CW just digging out old designs and modernising them so that they can rush more gear to the front.
But everything basically being same despite being what, 5000 years in the past is just stupid. Plus it feeds to the Mandolorian circlejerk that Star wars really doesn't need more off.

I was referencing 40k and the Cadian pattern armor being the standard armor across the galaxy

To be fair, that is just as stupid thing as well.

The 5,000 years thing is just the fantasy part of Star Wars' "space fantasy." LOTR and a lot of other fantasy settings do the same thing where they're medieval societies for thousands of years for no real reason other than the setting needs to have a certain consistent aesthetic and making an actual timeline of events is already hard without throwing in technological advancements. Its handwavy sure...but so is the rest of Star Wars. As for Mandolorian circlejerks...I tend to agree somewhat but I dunno what you'd do to fix it at this point. Make other factions that are just as cool and are alternatives to the Jedi/Sith/Republic/Empire dichotomy? Its been the "I wanna be DIFFERENT" faction for decades now. At least their new lore doesn't have them being super OP and getting creamed by the Empire.
